The 2013 Transfer Rumours Thread

Yeah seems like the Bale deal opens the door to a couple of Galacticos exiting. Rumours of Ozil, Benzema, Di Maria and Modric leaving are floating around. I'm sure those 4 (or even 3 of them) could recoup the Bale moola. Some of them linked to Arsenal but we only sign [-]quality[/-] free players so doubt those rumours are true.

Most likely outcome - they all stay and PSG/Monaco sign Ronaldo for €120 million on deadline day to balance Real's books and re-inflate Ronaldo's ego.

According to Sky Italia Brendan Rodgers has offered €23m (£19.7m) for Dinamo Kiev's Yarmolenko who Ukrainian national coach Oleg Blohkin has called "unstoppable".

But Milan also have a long-standing interest in the player and hope he can be persuaded to follow a similar path to compatriot Andriy Shevchenko who starred for the Rossoneri after joining from Dynamo Kiev in 1999.

My client obviously wants to play for a club like Milan. He would like to follow in the footsteps of Shevchenko.

And after qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League, the Italian club could be ready to at least match Liverpool's offer after having a £17m bid turned down recently.

The 23-year-old's agent agent Mikhail Gulordava said: "Milan made a €20m (£17m) bid for Yarmolenko, but the only way to tempt Kiev's president is to make an offer that he can't refuse.

"My client obviously wants to play for a club like Milan. He would like to follow in the footsteps of Shevchenko.

"However, Premier League clubs are also interested."

Milan have already had a bid for Andriy Yarmolenko rejected

He said: "Yarmolenko is a great player - talented and quick.

"Even though he doesn't play in my position, up front, he still manages to score plenty of goals.

"If he works hard he could get to the highest level."

It now remains to be seen whether Dynamo Kiev are swayed by Liverpool's bid and whether Milan are willing to up the stakes now they are in a position to offer Champions League football to the budding star.

Woah there cowboy. He has good potential, but he still has quite a lot to do/prove before he can even think he is as good as Modric.

Modric been average of late after sealing his move to RM... Eriksen has proven himself @ Ajax - where a lot of great players have been groomed... Trust me Eriksen is better then Modric @ the same age ;)

They don't even play the same position. Modric was amazing for Real at the end of last season.

I don't think you can say Eriksen has proven himself.

Huh? Modric = CM (deployed as a LCM @ RM but at Tottenham he played as a CAM), Eriksen = CAM or CM (deployed as a secondary striker/ central midfielder)

Eriksen @ age 21 has achieve the following already:

On 18 October 2011, Eriksen scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League when Ajax beat Dinamo Zagreb 2–0 in the group stage, making him the 2nd youngest player to score in the 2011–12 season. In the second match versus Dinamo Zagreb on 2 November he provided assists to Gregory van der Wiel and Siem de Jong as well as being involved with the third goal, as Ajax cruised to a 4–0 victory.[26] He was named Danish Football Player of the Year on 7 November after helping Ajax win the Eredivisie the previous year and guiding the national team to a successful Euro 2012 qualification campaign, after receiving the award Eriksen said, "I am extremely honoured to be standing here tonight. I did not expect it, it really means a lot to me. I would like to thank my team-mates in the national team as well as my team-mates at Ajax".[27] Following the success of Eriksen's third consecutive Eredivisie title in the 2012–13 season, he opted not to renew his contract with Ajax, and with one year still remaining on his current contract he was permitted to search for a new club. Having come to terms with Tottenham Hotspur in England, Eriksen left Ajax having appeared in 113 league matches, scoring 25 goals and 41 assists. He played in 16 matches for the KNVB Cup, scoring four goals and making four assists. He made 30 appearances on the continental stage for Ajax, scoring three goals, and making 9 assists all together. Having also competed in the Johan Cruijff Shield three years in a row.[28]

Modric at age 21:

Dinamo Zagreb[edit source | editbeta]
In 2005, Modrić signed his first long-term contract with Dinamo, for ten years. After a goalless first season, he managed to secure a place in Dinamo's first team, contributing 7 goals in 31 matches to help win the league.[12] During this time, Modrić rapidly established his role as playmaker or designated left winger in the team's 4–2–3–1 formation.[citation needed]
In the 2006–07 season, Dinamo again won the league with Modrić making a similar contribution,[12] acknowledged by the Prva HNL Player of the Year award. The following season, he led Dinamo's attempt to qualify for the UEFA Cup. In the final play-off stage, Modrić converted a penalty in the away fixture against AFC Ajax in a game that ended 1–1 after regular time. Dinamo then went on to win the game 3–2 in extra time after a brace from teammate Mario Mandžukić secured their win on away goals.[13] However, Dinamo Zagreb still failed to advance beyond the group stage. At his last home game with the club at Maksimir Stadium, Modrić was given a standing ovation and fans held up supportive banners.[14][15] He finished his impressive six-year tenure at Dinamo with a tally of 31 goals and 29 assists in four seasons,[16] contributing most notably in the 2007–08 season when Dinamo became champions by a 28-point margin and won the Croatian Cup in the same year.[17]
Tottenham Hotspur[edit source | editbeta]
2008–09 season[edit source | editbeta]
Modrić agreed transfer terms with Tottenham Hotspur on 26 April 2008. He was the first of many summer signings for coach Juande Ramos and was also the Premier League's first summer transfer.[18] After signing a six-year contract from summer 2008,[19] Tottenham confirmed that the total fee paid was £16.5 million, equalling the club's record fee set by Darren Bent's move in 2007.[20] Modrić made his debut for Tottenham on 28 July 2008 in a pre-season friendly against Norwich City. He played 45 minutes at Carrow Road during the 1–5 victory.[21] Two days later, on 30 July, Modrić scored his first goal for the club in the 1–5 victory against Leyton Orient. His competitive Premier League's debut was on 16 August in the 2–1 defeat by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in Spurs' first match of the 2008–09 season.[22]

Modrić warming up before a game against Wigan, in 2010.
Initially, Spurs used him as a deep-lying playmaker in central midfield, usually alongside Jermaine Jenas, to utilise his passing range, vision, and creativity to optimum effect. Then-manager Juande Ramos, however, deployed him in an extremely deep defensive midfield role, which his slight frame was not physically suited to. Before joining Tottenham, his greatest success had come in a more advanced, attacking left-sided role; playing him out of position limited his influence. Modrić also suffered from a niggling knee injury early in his Spurs career and he had to endure being labelled as a "light-weight" by sections of the media.[23] This coincided with his poor form, knocking his confidence and making him even less effective, leading to concerns both for himself and Croatia manager Slaven Bilić.[24]
With the appointment of manager Harry Redknapp, Modrić was given a more familiar advanced attacking role as a central or left-sided midfielder, which had been a problem position for Tottenham in the past. In the first few months of the 2008–09 season until the 2009 January transfer window, Modrić assumed a far more advanced role as a second striker behind one of Tottenham's two recognised first-team strikers, Roman Pavlyuchenko or Darren Bent. This allowed Modrić to have a far more attacking influence on the team and also utilise his footballing brain more productively, as in the thrilling 4–4 draw with arch-rivals Arsenal on 26 October 2008.[25] Modrić's impact in this position was well demonstrated with Tottenham's fourth and equalising goal when he collected the ball on his chest from Tom Huddlestone, and after a few controlled touches, unleashed a long-range half-volley which, courtesy of a deflection, hit the post and set up Aaron Lennon for a tap-in. Since this performance, his form improved considerably for Spurs, coinciding with his club's vastly improved form in the league. Redknapp recognised Modrić's value to his side, setting out plans to shape his new team around the Croatian playmaker

You telling me Eriksen isn't 1 up against Modric?

On another news, Chelsea just bought Christian Atsu, pacy Ghanaian winger...

If this is true they should have held the medical on the International Space Station. I can just see Mourinho scribbling on his white board finding a spot for him.
