The 2016 Way Less Objectivity thread

Moved back up to 90.5 .. mostly due to Diwali period... have been cutting back big time on the drinking though.. and when I do drink, I normally have vodka and soda, and whiskey with water. From today onwards, gonna be much stricter. Got to attend a wedding on the 3rd December in Cape Town, and would like to be down to 85/86 kg by then.

I've reached a milestone, no real progress since my last report, but my wife and I have successfully completed the 1st round of 28 days of our eating plan. I have lost a total of 12.2kg's during the time and she has lost a majestic 19.2kg's during the 28 days.

We have proven to ourselves that we can stick it out for 28 days. Furthermore, I believe that what I have gained from this was the following: habit of taking smaller portions; getting over sugar habit/dependency; generally healthier foods (no junk food; increased intake in fruit and veggies); increased water intake; self motivation (blood pressure much better; fitting into older clothes again; getting up from the couch much easier; etc).

This plan is certainly not for everyone, but if anybody is interested, I can share the details with you. I can vouch for the fact that I have not experienced any adverse effects while being on this eating plan - no drops in blood sugar or anything experienced.

19.2kgs in 28 days?

Please share your eating plan.

Thanks. I have looked at the diet plan, and I hope that you realise that this is taking crash dieting to the extreme. Some days it looks like you are eating less than 600 calories. When I diet I eat around 1300 to 1500 calories a day, and that is super low already (and I am very tall (181cms)). The WHO considers anything less than 1200 calories a day starvation.

A diet that states this for a day's worth of food: 1 toast, a tomato, cucumber & carrots, and soup (cup-a-soup) with a slice of toast is mental and is probably doing a lot more damage than you think. I hope you are not incorporating any vigorous exercise into this as well. How are you lasting 28 days on this diet plan? Losing weight is awesome, but you are going to battle to keep the rebound weight off. It's going to be a constant battle and you will have to monitor your weight on a weekly basis.

Also, 19kgs of weight loss in 4 weeks is extreme. So extreme, that I would take your wife to the doctor. I seriously recommend that you reconsider this diet plan.

Thanks for the feedback. I am due to see my doctor this week for an updated blood pressure medication prescription and will take the plan with to discuss with him. It is important to mention that I am currently obese class 3. I understand that there could be potential health complications arising from the eating plan, but I am making good progress in improving some of the actual existing health issues I have been experiencing for years - blood pressure probably being the biggest among them. Just to try and complete the picture: I went on medication with a blood pressure of about 165/110. After using medication for a while, I managed it to a level of about 135/95. Halfway through the first round, I measured it to be at 120/72.

I will report back after speaking to the doctor.

Please don't misunderstand me. I am not trying to diminish from what you accomplished at all. You and your wife have amazing willpower. It's always awesome to see people trying to get healthier.

I understand (in part) your desire to drop the weight so quickly. Think about your transformation as a journey and lifestyle change. You don't have to make this a race.

All the best with your doctor. I hope you give us good news.

Would be interesting to see what your doctor says about this diet, I'm on day 7 today and lost just over 1.8 Kg when I weighed last Friday.

One of my concerns is also losing too fast and then just gaining all that weight again after the 28 days when slacking a bit, but according to my sister who already whent through 28 days this is not the case. After her first 28 days she spent a week of her break on holliday in Moriches eating and drinking everything as a person will on a fully paid trip staying at a luxury resort and she didn't pick up more than a Kg.

how long was the break? and how much did you gain in that time?

Thanks man. :) I guess being served with a final notice so to speak, really did the trick.

Also, cravings are severely reduced. The first 3 weeks were hell, though. I think I know how it feels to be a druggie in rehab now.

That's kinda what made me stop smoking...... every year got sick, getting worse and worse per year.... and eventually ended with pneumonia. Since I've stopped smoking I've probably had bronchitis once. It's been 7 years

Are we going to take final weights at 30 November? Then I can take some time in December to design a new look and feel to the tracking in December, ready for January.

Hah. I added more to my post. :p

But I can relate - I seem to be getting sick more often as well - I used to get sick maybe once in 3 years, but I've been ill 4 or 5 times in the last 2. I think I have been severely reducing my immune system functionality by eating so much crap and being so overweight.

are you doing LCHF now?

I do actually eat carbs, and I hate meat fat - always have - so not eating that at all. Basically I eat smaller portions of carbs, much less often. And the one thing I've cut out even more, is sugar.

So basically:

- Moderate carbs, but definitely not every day any more, maybe once in 3 days.
- I eat a banana, apple and a carrot at work.
- Meat once or twice a week, no fat.
- A sweet a week, maybe. Small portions.
- Some nights we only eat a salad for dinner, nothing else.
- Drinking lots of water per day, 3 litres some days. Helps that I'm thirsty a lot, but I didn't use to listen to my body's needs before regarding thirst, now I do.

I'm not following any strict plan, I'm just being a lot more disciplined. Since stopping the binge eating (many pizzas/hamburgers a week), I was surprised to find I still have a pretty great metabolism. The wife's pretty jealous, though, I think snails are faster than her metabolism. She's been following the same eating pattern as I am, and gymming about 3 or 4 times a week, and only eats portions of a mouse, and she's only lost 3KG in the same time, despite being about 20KG overweight to start with. I really wish I could help her more. When she tries these metabolism boosters, all of them give her heart palpitations and she goes dizzy, and besides I believe they don't do much anyway.

Slowed down quite a bit. Becoming more difficult to lose. Have to contend with the fact I'm not 20 anymore.

Will post a final weigh in at the end of the month. Let's see if I can manage a sprint to the finals.

Your wife cannot only rely on the scale though. She should be taking measurements weekly and rather use her clothing as a better tool to gauge the changes in her body. My scale moves very slowly, but I can see muscle gains in some areas and fat loss in others.

Also, if your wife is not hitting her goals, she should look at investing in a small food scale and logging her food in an app (like MyFitness Pal). I didn't think I needed it, but all those very small items we snack on (like a tiny bit of biltong or a few nuts) can easily break a daily calorie goal. After logging my food, I had to make a few adjustments.
