The AirTies thread

Anybody tried alternative power supplies on their airties?

As mentioned in my previous post, I would like to add a battery backup to all my Airtiesbut have no idea what the acceptable range is on the input.

I think you might be better served by contacting Nology - they should be able to give you some info around that.

Installed 3 mesh airties, see its from Nology.

Goodluck with finding one - spare ones are rare...

Are you able to hardwire the Kitchen > Bedroom link? then all devices in that section can use that backhaul and not worry about routing via Bedroom > Lounge

Nope. Could hardwire lounge to bedroom but about 20m to 30m

Found them @
https://www.vox.co.za/wifi/airties/

But it seems they are all out of stock.

I bought my set from http://www.webantics.com/ but the site just gets redirected to Afrihost. When package was delivered it was from Nology https://nology.co.za/products/networking/home-wi-fi

Maybe give them a call and find out where their re-sellers are. Find a 3rd person in Pta east and we buy a 3 pack to split.

Won't the traffic from lounge to bedroom go the fastest route, which is via the kitchen ? That's my understanding of the Airties mesh. Below is mine btw. I assume it's going lounge-bedroom-study in my case.

If only there was a way to test... must say when these things work they work well but troubleshooting / deep diving can be a mission with the lack of material etc

Nology out of stock ... placed a request with a reseller nova tech I think to call me once available.

Edit Asked Nova Cloud to call me once stock. Want to mount one on the wall as in bedroom too far. Otherwise will do a hardwire connection.

Yep ... testing it out as a stepping toe into mesh wifi tech.

If happy, I'll upgrade to a bigger brand in 2 years time, unless airties heat up too much or end up being unreliable.

Am getting fibre soon... This will be the litmus test for me. Have a mikrotik doing all the routing and bandwidth management so the airties will have to not become the bottleneck

I considered selling the Airties and go Ubiquity......but decided against that, the Airties just work. Easy to setup and it works really well for it's price.

It does not have all the features other brands have, but for me, they work just fine.

They do get a bit hot, especially if they are placed flat against a wall restricting airflow......other than that, I'm happy with mine.

Yep the heat issue bothers me but will see whether its a problem or not. Happy if they last at least 2 years.

Mine are still going strong. Have since switched to 200Mbps fibre.

They handle 200Mbps fine? Ive seen 800mbps on my network tab on the app but always took that with a pinch of salt. What router are you running and what sort of setup do you have if you don't mind me asking?

BTW how do you guys handle / manage the power outages? After a period of loadshedding i always find 1 or more of the nodes disconnects itself from the MESH and i have to force-reset it

Are your mesh ties connected directly into telkom huawei fibre modem or via telkom dlink router?

I tried directly into modem but didnt get a signal. But via [edit] router it provided a signal.

Switched off wifi on router.

Yet wifi disconnects and then reconnects randomly ... cannot allocate ip address error.

Edit reset everything incl. fibre router and dlink modem and everything seems stable. Also relocated 2 airties slightly.

I have mine connected to my Mikrotik Router, so Telkom Huawei (wifi off) > Mikrotik (serving dhcp) > Airties Node 1. Wifi is setup on the Airties and they then make a mesh.

Its a bit of a mess because if i need to change wifi settings i have to log on to the Airties, then if i need to setup routing, firewall etc i have to log on to Mikrotik, then if i need to setup WAN i log onto Huawei...

Ive noticed that sometimes the Airties lose the connection to the router and so do no let my devices (usually my phone) get an IP address. Forgetting and reconnecting to the WIFi after an Airties restart usually works

My airties seem to heat up and switch off every 2 hours?

Currently only one shows online yet all powered up?

Edit: somehow now seems ok. Not sure if its because I moved them (cant see why it would make a difference as temp should be same)

Thats odd - how hot are the areas where the nodes are located? I also find they get super hot but mine are in a reas with free flowing cooler air - never had them shutdown before though
