The Alfa Romeo Giulia Thread

Great reason to buy a second hand Alfa then.

Nothing beats the drive of an Alfa. Drove a 2003 156 T-Spark 2.0 a number of years back for a few months, and have missed it ever since.

Had a similar experience when I was considering buying the 159 1750Ti Spec...
Took it on the N2, up sir lowry's pass, all the way to Grabouw, what a pleasure...
I've been up that pass in quite a few different cars, ranging from GTi's, ST's, BMW and others, but none sat as well as that 159, it just seemed to get better and better.
If it wasn't for the crap that the dealer was trying to pull, I'd probably have bought it..
Look forward to seeing the Giulia in the flesh...

Not too long ago, the new Porsche Panamera Turbo lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 38 seconds, making it the fastest production sedan around the famous track.

But now Alfa Romeo has reclaimed the record, with the Giulia Quadrifoglio blasting around the Nordschleife in just 7 minutes 32 seconds.

We say “reclaimed”, of course, because an example equipped with a manual gearbox earlier completed the lap in 7 minutes 39 seconds, before Porsche swooped in to grab the record by a single second. But the Giulia Quadrifoglio that set the latest fastest time was was fitted with the optional, eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, apparently giving it a significant edge.

Who was the man behind the wheel? None other than Alfa Romeo test driver Fabio France, who appeared to use all 380 kW and 600 N.m at his disposal from the 2,9-litre, twin-turbo V6 engine mill powering the sedan.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio specifications in South Africa

Fiat Group Automobiles SA recently confirmed that the first Alfa Romeo Giulia QV customer cars will land in South Africa during January 2017.

The Quadrifoglio Launch Edition (automatic) will cost R1.4 million (which should include a maintenance plan) and will be specified with, inter alia, red (or yellow) brake calipers, QV Tecnico 19-inch alloy wheels, a carbonfibre-trimmed QV steering wheel, Sparco seats, a Harman Kardon audio system, a Uconnect Touch navigation system with DAB, adaptive cruise control, Convenience Pack (including puddle lamps and keyless entry), Ambient Light Pack, tinted rear windows, smoking kit and a choice of pastel or metallic exterior finishes.

The top-of-the-range Quadrifoglio Race Edition (automatic) will cost R1.6 million. Over and above the specification of the Launch edition, the Race version has ventilated ceramic brake discs with red calipers, QV Stile Dark 19-inch alloy wheels, a tri-coat paint finish plus a unique-to-South Africa cabin plate

As for the other derivatives in the range, the final line-up has yet to be finalised, said Shane Howarth, the head of marketing communications at Fiat Group Automobiles South Africa.

“The new Giulia features outstanding weight distribution, a suspension system that features the exclusive AlfaLink technology and the most direct steering in its segment. In addition to all-aluminium 4-cylinder drive trains that embody the very best in the Group's motoring technology, Giulia derivatives incorporate various ultralight materials, like carbon fibre, aluminium, aluminium composite and plastic, to obtain excellent weight-to-power ratios," Howarth said.

“Pricing has not been confirmed yet. The range includes 3 trim levels (Giulia, Super and Quadrifoglio) and we are still confirming which trim levels (and specifications) we will bring in, however,” he added.

That's what I am talking about....

"The Alfa Romeo Giulia is set to arrive in South Africa next January, and enthusiasts are no doubt licking their lips in anticipation of the high-output Quadrifoglio model. But now the Italian manufacturer has taken the covers off a new derivative dubbed the Giulia Veloce, which will be offered in both petrol and diesel flavours.

There’s a turbocharged 2,0-litre petrol engine delivering 208 kW and 400 N.m as well as a 2,2-litre turbodiesel mill good for 156 kW and 470 N.m. Both models will deliver their respective power to all four wheels through the brand’s Q4 all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Q4 system is said to add some 60 kg to the overall mass, but the automaker seems confident that the boost in power will more than make up for this added lard. It’s also worth noting that the oil-burner will be the first production diesel engine from Alfa to make use of a fully aluminium construction.

The Giulia Veloce sets itself apart visually with unique bumpers and side skirts, gloss black door trim, Xenon headlamps and an optional set of five-hole 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Veloce’s standard equipment list is also somewhat more generous, and includes dual-zone climate control, a 6,5-inch uConnect infotainment system and active safety assists.

The new model will be on display at the Paris Motor Show."

This car will do great on the second hand market. I'm talking the base model here... it will love about 50% of its value after a year or two. Look out for it on the Arnold Chatz second hand floor when Fiat Group offloads its lease company cars. They did the same with the Guilettas. Arnold chatz had about 50+ vehicles all going for around R200k and with low mileage, and with the remainder of the maintenance plan.

Love it! If I can afford the Veloce... yes, I would make it my next car. Who cares about depreciation.

Can only dream.

This and the Jag XE have really shaken up the saloon segment. Nice to know that are viable alternatives now to the 3 Series, C Class and A4. Can't afford any of em, but doesn't stop me dreaming :D
