Johannesburg - Britain's high court will on Friday announce its decision on British businessman Shrien Dewani's appeal to avoid extradition to South Africa over the alleged murder of his wife.

The decision is due at 10:15 local time, or 11:15 in South Africa.

Dewani, from the United Kingdom, has been implicated in the murder of his wife Anni, 28, while they were on honeymoon in December 2010.

Health

The 31-year-old told the media afterwards that they were hijacked as they entered a township with their shuttle bus driver Zola Tonga.

Dewani was pushed out of the car, but his wife was later found dead.

He returned to the UK, but the National Prosecuting Authority has subsequently applied for his extradition back to South Africa as the fourth accused in the case.

Dewani lodged an appeal to Britain's high court after Theresa May, the country's interior minister, signed an order for his extradition following a judge's ruling in August that he should be sent to stand trial.

At December's hearing, Dewani's lawyers argued that their client's health and life would be at risk if he were to be extradited and that he was a serious suicide risk.

Driver Tonga was jailed for 18 years after turning State witness and pleading guilty to his part in the killing. He claimed Dewani had ordered the shooting and paid him.

The other two people believed to be implicated in the murder are Mziwamadoda Qwabe and Xolile Mngeni.

Allegations 'deeply flawed'

The Press Association in the UK reported that the Dewani family said the allegations against him were "deeply flawed".

In a statement released on Thursday night, the family said Dewani was determined to return to South Africa to clear his name and seek justice for his wife.

The correct place to demonstrate his innocence was in a court of law, the statement said, adding: "This can only be done when he is well enough and when his personal safety can be guaranteed.

The family remain hopeful that the British high court will block any attempt to extradite Shrien until he has fully recovered and it is safe for him to stand trial, if charged."

The Dewani family's lawyer, Charlotte Harris, of Mishcon de Reya, said in a statement to the Press Association: "Shrien is innocent and has always maintained his commitment to clearing his name of all the false allegations and slurs against him.

"He remains determined to fight for justice for his wife, Anni."

After a BBC Panorama program last night about Dewani... the SA police were not portrayed as being unbiased... one of the accused murder suspects was hospitalised 'For a brain tumor' right after he was arrested. *yeah right!*

Dewani is not clean.. but the SA police aren't telling the full story

What do you mean by this ? I know the case is more complicated than this, but that video footage of Dewani handing a parcel to Tongo (Tonga?) is DAMNING to say the least. I would LOVE to hear his explanation for that.

You saying the police somehow faked him having a brain tumor? :wtf: The brain surgery was made up?
Of course the police aren't telling the full story - that will come out in court. You don't lay all your cards out on the table for a tv show...

The accused driver got 7 years off his sentence (total 15) for helping the Police (When you know that there isnt a snowballs chance in hell of being found innocent, I would also say what the police want me to say.

There were two witness in the room with Dewani at the handover (there was a total of 4 people in the Internet room)

The gunshot wound was not consistent with an execution.. (through her hand, in to her chest and then her neck)

The two witnesses that picked up Dewani after the hijack say he was in a major panic, this is not consistent with a pre-meditated murder reaction.

Dewani doesnt appear to have met Tsongo(?) before the night... Before they left they chatted for 5 minutes and then left for Supper with the missus. For pre-meditated murder, the whole execution of events should have a huge paper-trail (Phone calls, visits etc) - So far SA Police say there were alleged text messages after the murder, but no-one knows what they were.

SA police say Dewani was Agitated before leaving the hotel.. CCTV footage shows the contrary.

I am not defending anyone - I would just like to know the REAL facts as both sides seem to be full of k@k

Real tumor or not.... when you get beaten so badly and get hospitalised... any severe head injury will also lead to surgery.

Most of what you say you saw in the tv programme seems to point to Dewani's guilt :

The accused driver got 7 years off his sentence (total 15) for helping the Police (When you know that there isnt a snowballs chance in hell of being found innocent, I would also say what the police want me to say.......There is no reason for him to lie about Dewani's involvement. What would he gain from it?

There were two witness in the room with Dewani at the handover (there was a total of 4 people in the Internet room) ....... This serves to prove that he did in fact hand over money (or something!) to Tonga.

The gunshot wound was not consistent with an execution.. (through her hand, in to her chest and then her neck) ..... The killers were not professional assassins - one can imagine they would be nervous and make a balls-up of the shooting.

The two witnesses that picked up Dewani after the hijack say he was in a major panic, this is not consistent with a pre-meditated murder reaction...... If you arrange to have someone killed for (presumably) the first time in your life , you would also be a tad nervous to say the least!

A lesser sentence... 15 years or 8 years in the klink :D

The other two people in the room have not been found or their statement have not been disclosed. I would make sure I was alone if I was to do a cash-for-illicit-services swap. Did they plan a hit... or surf Google Maps looking for points of interest?

Murders remorse? :D There is a difference between nervous and frantic - but yes, I do get your point.

Possible but a bit far fetched - it would mean both the neurosurgeon at Groote Schuur is lying and the second, court appointed neurologist, is also lying...

So the cops have a perfect human rights record and have never beaten anyone in to a confession :D

So the cops always beat confessions out of people and the local doctors all turn a blind eye and lie on their behalf? :wtf:

This is high profile case, it would have been extremely difficult to cover up the fact that a main suspect had been beaten so badly he required brain surgery - the neurologists and other doctors would need to be convinced to lie about it (in court), the nurses at the hospital would need to convinced to lie about it, journalists would need to be kept away... Just seems unlikely to me. I find it easier to believe he had a brain tumour, like stated to the court.

Have to agree with this. What would be the motive for a neurologist to lie and put his professional career on the line for someone he has never even met before now?

Supposedly he can only stand trial here when he is mentally fit ...... so all he has to do is to keep pretending that he is unfit.

PS: Now that it is offical, he'll probably celebrate bigtime! Scumbag.

Pretty much. I think this was far more political than what's evident on the surface. SA will be wasting money trying to extradite him again.

He gets off scot-free...
