The Anni Dewani Murder Case

OK, from what I've gathered in the media:
  • quite a few people involved in the commission of this crime
  • car was hijacked but not stolen
  • only a few items of value stolen from the victims
  • husband was left, unscathed, despite some media reports that said that he was thrown from the vehicle
  • wife was killed with a single gunshot, yet wasn't sexually assaulted - which is what they normally do
  • husband left the country, even before the post-mortem was complete; is he not a suspect then or have they ruled him out already?

Which leaves me to ask:
With the valuables that they could have gotten from this couple, or the car that they could've stolen, what was the motive of this crime?

And before people start accusing me of conspiracy theories, I want to ask this:

Has any murder, one that was widely publicised and even well-documented, ever been senseless?

The woman was shot 3 times in the chest.

50 murders a day, you do the calculation.

Yeah I've seen the statistics too. And it's 46 murders a day fwiw. You surely can't blame the statistical murder of people over a period of time on a case that is getting more media attention than the other 199 dead people? In fact come to think about it I can't recall the last murder story in the time since the Brit woman was hijacked.

What do you mean by this ? Maybe they took all the valuables the couple had with them. We do not know those details.

I do not understand this question.

All murders are senseless to us, the victims and the loved ones. To the perps, it made sense on some strange level, else they would not have done it.

Going on available reports to very hard to decipher a motive for murdering the woman.

I'd like to find where you get your wild accusation of the cops spending all their time on this murder thus leaving all the other murders unsolved/investigated.

I have to agree just a little, with all the media attention and pressure, I am almost certain this case has gotten a much higher priority and more resources. Certianly more than the other murder cases.
Does this make a massive difference? I dont know, but there is a difference...

thats not a good thing..

You are aware that not all murders hit the newspapers, right?

LOL dude, I think we can assume another 200 people was murdered during this period. You can try to minimise it but that is the sad reality.

I disagree, some murders are not senseless. Some of them are completely reasonable (not right, but reasonable)

Of course, but why is one person's death deemed more important than another? Don't you think if the media highlighted on more common violent crime it would make the issue more present? The fact that this case is getting the attention of the Hawks says a lot, had this been just another case of someone being shot dead in their driveway without the media fanfaire nobody abroad would realise what a problem we have with crime.

I agree with you on the attention this case is getting...but have no illusions about how the world perceives our crime rate. They probably perceive it alot worse than it is

Don't agree, if people even perceived it as bad as it is, this couple wouldn't have gone into Gugulethu.

IMHO people overseas perceive it as a lot better than it really is.

I posted something in this regard earlier on in this thread.

Lots of reasons why some murders get more attention from the media and the SAPS -

1. Foreigners (we have an image abroad [I know, I know, don't get started on this!] and it affects tourism, so it gets priority, however unfair it seems;

2. VIP's/celebs - example Brett Kebble, Taliep Petersen

3. Particularly gruesome murders

4. Murders where the family / friends use the media and do all they can to keep it in the spotlight in order to remind people that the killer is still at large

5. Missing white woman syndrome - example Leigh Matthews

some ppl will always go into bad areas no matter what you tell them
Remember germany recommending bullet proof vests for the world cup? Before they had even come out here to investigate? That...is the perception we have

Fair enough, we do not know this detail. Was just trying to establish whether the original intention was robbery because then they would've taken more than just the couple's valuables; they could've easily just made the car disappear for a while - after all, the car itself had been operating with a false registration and the police have only discovered that now.

Maybe senseless wasn't the right word; was more thinking of motive. Murderers usually kill their victims for a reason; that's what I meant. Don't want to speculate as to the reason this women was murdered but what I know is that there is one.
