Yeah the wait can be a pita. Thats a new unit at R40k From Bitmart?

Bitmart is all out of stock for December batches. The Jan batch has a few left priced at 3700 USD. Ill get it from Bitmarts local supplier and I can have it here by the end of the week if all goes according to plan

Unless they have physical stock on their premises I'm not sure how you plan on getting hold of one. They order from Bitmain and send it to you with a huge mark up, the stock they show on their website is the stock they have ordered from Bitmain it arrives when it arrives, I also see no mention of a PSU included.

Thanks, I think I see the mistake Nadir made... Bitmart / Bitmain gets confusing. Bitmart = SA Reseller for Bitmain. They take preorders just like Bitmain do. All they do is manage the import / local invoice.

This person was on my campus a few years ago, and thats what they told me. Could be a lie or it could be true

The person who I am in contact with said they have stock here in SA, and I could have it by the end of the week. Im in Richards Bay, they are in Durban. The one I may be getting is priced at R43k with a PSU. Ill have to check everything is legit before proceeding. I dont mind the ridiculous mark up considering I only wait a week to get it, as compared to 3 months give or take with Bitmain.

Im actually trying to purchase one now through bitmain and the site is hanging like crazy since the new stock was added. I cant even get to the checkout page.

What could also have happened as it has with me Bitmart sometimes shows in US dollars, he might have thought because it showed in dollars it was some sort of official Bitmain supplier, you just have to change it on the top right hand corner from USA to ZAR.

That site is notoriously slow even on a good day, just take care when buying locally, there are loads of scammers out there.

I havent bought a miner before so I need to know what to look for. Will the invoice of the unit from Bitmain have a serial number that I can track or validate via their support before buying?

You will get an order number that you can use to send to support if you have any issues, you can also check on your order status on your profile whether payment has gone through and when it is being shipped, although they should send you a Email to confirm all of that, they aren't known for responding quickly, the tracking number you will only receive when they ship the item.

Be very careful of the many fake OLX and Gumtree sellers out there. I was amazed at just how many chancers there are.

What do you mean by this if I many ask? People who take your money and run? Selling fake or damaged equipment?

The fact that I know this person from campus gives some peace of mind but I will take all precautions as if it were someone I don't know. I will first view the equipment before deciding to get it here on Friday or order from Bitmain.

He He, I told one guy I was interested in his L3+ he was selling for a pretty good price, after asking for more details, when it will arrive etc, he decides to increase the price and says he needs full payment up front in BTC, I told him to get EFFed.

Never pay up front, unless you can physically touch the miner there is a good chance it might not exist.

If it's someone you know, it's a different story, but yes - people who take your money and run. They smooth talk you into parting with your money via cash transfer (not EFT - checkers money transfer or cardless withdrawal at ATMs). Always look those cell numbers up using truecaller.com and do reverse image searches on the images they use to market their stuff - so many re-use images from other sellers on ebay, olx international sites, etc. If you use Gumtree, use the Shepherd service - if they refuse, don't touch them with a barge pole.

Probably the same guy I reported - was using pics from an ebay sale - even including a pic with his 'name' on a piece of paper - just cropped a bit to exclude the ebay.com bit above it lol.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I will definitely do all my homework before buying from someone locally. If all is in order I will have my machine by next week :)

Nice :)
Let us know how it goes! Setup should be painless, they are really easy to configure. Shout if you need a hand. I'm itching to get my hands on an S9!

Well, I just realized, I can just cancel my D3 order. Having gone through the terms and conditions, there is nothing stipulated regarding the terms under which an order can be cancelled, other than attracting a nominal cancellation fee. If by some miracle I get this done (I'm fully expecting some push-back), I'll be laying out for an S9 or Baikal instead.

Hold thumbs!
So quick update:

Seller is willing to can the order at a 30% cancellation fee, in spite of having 10% specified under his terms and conditions. I told him that's BS and , although I'm not obliged to, I'm willing to pay a 15% cancellation fee.

Will see what he comes back with.

Man you can't win with D3 ..lol...Dash price pumped nearly 100 percent in a week. November D3 coming online took difficulty from 32 million to 55,5 million in two days
Edit and climbing 57.6 million

Was the seller not Bitmain?
Eish - that sucks.
