Audi A6 Avant e-tron Concept

Audi has presented the next model in its future electrically-powered A6 Luxury Class: the Avant. The company with the four rings introduced the Audi A6 Sportback with an electric drive system at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2021. The production-oriented A6 Avant e-tron concept car now illustrates the synthesis of pioneering drive technology and Audi's traditional design world: the Avant.

Like the Audi A6 e-tron concept that was exhibited in 2021, the A6 Avant also has an exclusively electric drive system based on the forward-looking PPE platform, developed under Audi's leadership. At the same time, it represents a new design concept with the same dimensions as the A6 Sportback e-tron. At 4,960mm (16.3 ft.) long, 1,960mm (6.4 ft.) wide, and 1,440mm (4.7 ft.) tall, its proportions put it in the luxury class. Its lines are a consistent development in Audi's contemporary formal language. Significant elements like the closed Singleframe and the continuous strip of lights in the rear emphasize its kinship with the other electrically powered Audis in the e-tron fleet.

The Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept exterior model that is making its debut in March 2022 is not just a simple design exercise. Its lines and elegant proportions preview future Audi production models and offer clues about how dynamic and elegant the electrically-powered luxury class will look.

Audi A6 Avant E-tron concept previews sleek 2024 EV estate

Electric equivalent to the Audi A6 Avant will get single- and dual-motor drivetrains and up to 435 miles of range

The Audi A6 will gain an all-electric equivalent in 2024, complete with an Avant-badged version that is set to be the first all-electric offering in the executive estate segment.

Following the reveal of the saloon-shaped A6 E-tron concept last year, Audi has revealed a follow-up concept that closely previews the estate variant. It won’t immediately replace the A6 Avant, though, because Audi is planning to launch a ‘parallel offer’ powered by combustion in the future.

Like its saloon sibling – which sports a rakish silhouette in line with a vision to provide an EV alternative to both the current A6 and A7 – the new A6 Avant E-tron sits atop the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, which Audi is developing in partnership with Porsche and will be deployed first in the new Porsche Macan EV and Audi Q6 E-tron in 2023.

This platform blends elements of the Porsche Taycan and Audi E-tron GT’s J1 underpinnings with the MEB architecture used more widely by the Volkswagen Group. Audi says it will ensure “that what the car’s lines imply is translated into a standard of dynamic driving performance and everyday suitability befitting use for long drives.”

Remember the Audi A6 e-tron concept from April last year? Well, the one you really want is finally here – yep, it’s the A6 Avant e-tron concept…

This is great news, because as well as being a fantastic looking thing, it’s proof that Audi will stick with estates as it transitions to an all-electric future. The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and MG 5 EV will finally have some competition.

Like with the Sportback-bodied A6 that came last year, Audi says that this Avant concept is between 90 and 95 per cent finished. It gets a similar closed grille and rear lightbar to its saloony sibling, plus big wheels, short overhangs and properly boxy arches. Mega isn’t it? Although we hope the shallow rear windows don’t make it feel too cramped in the back.

Audi hasn’t provided any stats for boot space, but we are assured that the Avant will be the “storage champ”. Overall it’s the same size as the Sportback though – 4.96 metres long, 1.96 metres wide and 1.44 metres high – but as expected it is ever so slightly less aerodynamic. A drag coefficient of 0.24 plays 0.22 for the Sportback.

Audi unveils A6 Avant e-tron concept estate with 700 km range

Today Audi has unveiled the second half of its A6 EV journey, following on from the A6 e-tron concept revealed last year. It's now joined by the A6 Avant e-tron concept, and if you're unfamiliar with Audi's brands, Avant basically stands for 'estate'. Or 'wagon', if that's how you'd rather say it.

The A6 Avant e-tron is a "production-oriented" concept car using the Premium Platform Electric, or PPE, which was developed together with Porsche. The first Audi production cars based on this platform will arrive on the market next year. PPE is made for SUVs and CUVs with high ground clearance but also cars with low ride height like the A6 series.

Worried the automotive industry’s shift towards electric vehicles will spell the end of the road for the largely underappreciated wagon body style? Well, fear not, lovers of long roofs. The new Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept has been revealed, resplendent in Neptune Valley grey paint and offering a look at a future production battery-powered model.

Described as more than “just a simple design exercise”, the new A6 Avant e-tron concept hits the stage around a year after the unveiling of the Sportback equivalent (and shortly after Audi South Africa’s electric assault on the local market). Like that concept, the newcomer employs an electric drive system based on the upcoming Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, a modular architecture being developed by Audi with Porsche.

Break out the measuring tape and you’ll find the A6 Avant e-tron concept is 4 960 mm long and 1 960 mm wide, while standing 1 440 mm tall, making it roughly the same size as the current, combustion-engined A6 Avant. As you might be able to tell simply by looking at it, the Ingolstadt-based firm says the sleek show car boasts an aerodynamic value that is “unprecedented” in the electrified C-segment.
