Just came back from Cars.co.za HQ.
Checked out the 2nd Gen R8 V10 Plus...with tons of extras...

Such a looker; the build & engine sound. Virtual Cockpit properly impressive...graphics & fps is tops. Seating position is beautiful!

The McLaren 570S just came to the offices as well; a shootout between that & the R8 is coming out in a few days.

The Mac pics are in the 570S thread.

Overall I prefer the R8. McLaren still has massive presence.

Wayde van Niekerk, the golden boy of South African athletics who broke the 400m world record at the 2016 Rio Olympic games was presented with an Audi R8 on his arrival at OR Tambo International airport Wednesday.

The 24-year-old will be loaned a V10 Plus model for one year according to Audi South Africa. Van Niekerk was named as an Audi Sport Ambassadors ahead of the Games earlier in August.

Van Niekerk's time of 43.03 in the 400m final broke a record that stood since 1999 by United States great Michael Johnson.

The Cape Town-born athlete was initially given an Audi RS3, but it seems his exploits in Brazil garnered him an upgrade. We couldn't think of a better one!

Wayde please make sure your girlfriend leaves the bathroom door open when she goes to the toilet during the night.

Recently revealed by Porsche in the new Panamera, Audi is set to introduce the new turbocharged V6 in four new performance cars, including a new R8 model

The Audi R8 will gain a new, entry-level version that'll use a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine recently unveiled by Porsche in the latest Panamera.

The 90deg unit will also be used in the RS4, RS5 and soon-to-be-confirmed RS Q5 models. It has been developed in a joint venture by Audi and Porsche as part of a new modular engine family known under the working title KoVoMo.

The engine has been engineered for what Porsche engineers have called high-power applications from both car makers.

The new turbocharged V6 replaces Audi’s older, naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 petrol engine. Audi’s V8 has been discontinued because of what Ingolstadt officials describe as a combination of the high costs of updating it to meet future emissions standards and concerns in markets such as China, where road tax is linked to engine capacity.

In the latest Panamera 4S, the new engine delivers 434bhp at 5650rpm and 405lb ft of torque between 1750rpm and 5500rpm when running a relatively low 0.4bar of turbocharger boost pressure.

With subtle tweaks, including greater boost, the joint-venture engine is claimed to offer more than 500bhp and up to 500lb ft, although it has yet to be confirmed what output Audi has settled on for its quartet of new performance models.

In the most recent RS4 and RS5, Audi’s naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 kicked out 444bhp and 314lb ft.

Audi officials contacted by Autocar have revealed that the new V6 will be offered in a range of outputs.

The new 2.9-litre engine destined for the RS4, RS5, RS Q5 and R8 differs in capacity from the slightly larger, 3.0-litre version of the joint-venture V6 recently launched by Audi in the new S4.

Further differentiation is found in the induction system, with the S4’s engine using a single twin-scroll turbocharger and the 2.9-litre version getting twin turbochargers.

Currently, the second-generation Audi R8 is available only with a naturally aspirated V10, albeit in two states of tune. To many, that may not be such a bad thing.

But there has been talk that some potential customers are missing the entry-level 4,2-litre V8 engine option that was available with the first generation R8. And, according to reports out of the United Kingdom, Audi is about to respond.

How? By adding a new 2,9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol mill at the foot of the range. We say “new”, but this engine has actually already made its debut, in the latest Porsche Panamera.

Autocar furthermore reports that the engine – which was co-developed by Volkswagen Group siblings, Porsche and Audi – will also be used in the Audi RS4, RS5 and possibly even in the as-yet-unconfirmed RS Q5 (again, in different states of tune).

Power output for this new mill in Audi R8 configuration has yet to be confirmed.

RIP to the NA 4.2L V8  It was one of the great engines. I really hope they keep it as an option for the RS4 and RS5.

For the R8 I don't really care, as long as they keep the V10 option. That said, it won't surprise me if we see the 4.0 V8 from the RS6/7 (or some variant thereof) in the R8 soon

Agreed the RS4 4.2 N/A V8 was just lovely.

It's already confirmed new RS4 & RS5 will use an all-new 2.9 Biturbo V6 co-developed with Porsche. Engine is already use in new Pana...
