The Audi Thread

So an update post DPF and CAT Delete
:)

Drove from West Rand to Hammankraal for a meeting today 111KM and wow was it a great drive , I think I did get a speeding ticket at the toll was slowing down fast enough

I noticed my engine temp not get past 99 degrees at the part where I pushed it the hardest and between 92-93 degrees on average.

I am beginning to wonder if the temp is a little on the low side ( 5W30 Liquimoly full synthetic oil) previously pushing hard i would get 107 degrees .

I use VW507 5W30 spec wolf oil from goldwagen, my temps also are the same.

Hows you fuel consumption? Better or worse? Too soon to tell probably.

I have never heard the fans running either after a drive.

I've also removed the cosmetic engine cover for added cooling for when its parked.

Then you're not driving it hard enough :)

I had my oil service done by Audi and after a spirited drive I hear the fans still operating for a while after I've stopped.

The Liquid Moly is the equivalent to 507 VW oil that I use. i am not sure if its a theory or a myth or fact that you must let your oil get into above 100 degrees as this allows for moisture to evaporate, moist as a by product from combustion.

When I filled up the range was 860Km I have done 554Km I have 490KM left on the range - I believe alot of freeway driving is increasing the range.

I think the guy that tuned my car tuned the fans to switch on, I see if i switch off the car with oil around 95 degrees from city driving I can hear the fans when i step out ( note i let the car idle a 1 minute before switching off and in that minute oil can drop from 99 degrees to 95 degrees) . Previously I only heard the fans when it was doing a DPF regen, and also you would know because when you open the drivers door you feel the heat being channeled past.

On a side note I am loving that diesel smell ( havent seen any smoke yet even at high pulls) , and that now linear pull as well like it never runs out of power.

one thing I notice and its very difficult to measure could be in my mind but my throttle pedal feels softer , Previously there was a resistance you could feel now there is some resistance but not as much as it use to

The digital redline on the tacho, it always varies from 4900 to 5000rpm , lately I am getting 5000rpm all the time that one bar stays off longer than staying on vs previously. I know in non hot weather climates that redline will allow 5100rpm, strange thing is I never redlined before I did get up to 257Km (speedo) ( for legal purposes it was not a public road) once but the tacho was around 4000rpm

Yeah, I haven't seen more than 99c, normally between 90-95c. Yes its true that one should get oil temp up to 90c operating temp to burn off water condensation in the sump from making frequent short trips where the oil doesnt get hot enough. This applies to all engines and fuel types though.

I redline mine all the time when I do short bursts in traffic. Accelerator pedal feels the same there, haven't noticed any difference, maybe a placebo effect? Mine sits just below 2000rpm at 130km/h.

Dbn->cpt trip, 55l tank:

Its probably geared to do 300 or something.

Oh, and mine rolls coal a bit when I floor it.

The Speedo says 300 but we know its not selling that

those are some pretty good numbers on the fuel side , managed to get 5.1l per hundred on my last 111km via the N14.

Which engine are you running?

I'm sure if you slap a stage 3 and remove the limiter :P

I used to get better numbers before dpf removal honestly but I can live with that, but thats why I love diesel, best of both worlds, insane performance and insane economy at the same time.

I have the CDUC engine.

I have the CTCC :)

Going to keep it stage 1 max. I wanna see how many Kms I can out on this before any major rebuilds. The goal is 500 000Kms currently on 189600km

Got to love them low revving high output diesels, the torque, the fuel efficiency. Been travelling all week started with a full tank on Monday morning sitting at 652km with half tank and range still says 430km left

Yeah, I get about 900kms on the open road and about 700 with town driving.

Size of tank? The old 2.4 A6 C5 I just sold had a 90l tank. On the open road about 8l/100, around town probably 20, I was too scared to actually measure it.

Love it, tiny accelerator push, wait for boost, revs don't go over 1500rpm in town.

My goal is 1 million kms.

I have the C7.5 A6 (its the facelift version) these came in 2 fuel tank sizes from what I have been lead to believe and again I stand to be corrected here. If you picked the option to not equip the car with a spare wheel you got a 75 litre tank and if you did go the spare tyre route you got a 73 litre tank mine is 73 litres on the diesel tank and I think the adblue was 17 litres

Im the first to admit im no a6 expert, a4 on the other hand I can comment with confidence and the way the tank size works with this series is (and im sure it works for the rest too) that if it’s Quattro then the tank is 5l smaller than the front wheel drive variants because of the rear differential. Eg, a4 b8 tank size is 60l (from manual) but 4wd models are 55l. I can just shudder to think about the 2.l turbo petrol variant, like gti golf r etc. I’ve owned g6 gti and g7 gti, I’ve managed over a jolling weekend to get only 250km on a 50l tank never mind all the wheel spinning all the time. This is the main reason I ended up with a Quattro. One jolling weekend after many Jack Daniel’s I decided I’ve had enough of Vw’s and decided to take advantage to f Audie’s **** resale value and boy, do I not regret my decision, Audis with their million control arms in their suspension provides one with an arrow straight ride no matter what is happening with undulations on the road. You just drive with your pinky and it just goes straight when compared to vw (3 polos and two golfs) which would wander all over the place and dont get me started with the stability that 4wd providers, any standing water on the road and the Vw’s would **** the bed but this just charges on no problem. Talking about Quattro, one day I was driving back from Pmb on the Kloof m13 road and was raining heavy, I was just cruising at 100 with cruise control and in front of me was a bmw 3 series that hit a wet patch and spun out and disappeared through the railing out of sight, I didn’t feel anything.

I havent had the luxury of owning a quattro as yet , next on my list. I have a golf 6 gti and I know what you mean. I run softer tyres to help it grip better. Actually did an oil service and changed from rotors and disc on it on Saturday morning , chucked in a can of liqui moly ceratec and wow it runs so much smoother.

The A6 is front wheel drive and the part thats not very lekker is the torque steer , when you floor it from standstill it pulls left very hard you do get used to it but uou have to be careful there is no checkers 60 60 dude thats splitting the lane. ( from a experience that guy sh@t himself) Hate it with a passion when the bikes split lanes and stop in front of you then do like 35 in a 60.

So Saturday I get into the A6 , and see a little piece of paper on the drivers foot well , blank looking dirty , got me thinking whats this is so I carefully lift off and turn it around and low and below its my build number , the adhesive must have given up, I believe its the cars way of saying hey i like what you did with me heres a little present  , I have carefull put it into the service book transparent little window thingy build 0432 of I think there was just over 254 000 A6 C7 built, these were all built in Germany well thats what Google tells me

Oh, I thought all 3.0tdis were Quattros.
