The Audi Thread

I was there in middle December, that's when they re-gassed it and said nothing is wrong. Went last Friday again, and that was the finding after a deeper dive. Will see how long it lasts this time.

Let me check if it's a genuine Audi part, for that price it should be.
I couldn’t make my 2 week checkup so I still don’t know. Now im jolling in Cape Town. Might look for aircons place here with uv light.

I got an app on my phone and went for a drive and did a short 0-100. Didn't use launch control though, maybe tomorrow:

Anyone else seen this expiry message from the Audi Dataplug app?

It seems to have coincided with some pretty bad phone battery drain the last few days. I tried forcing the app to stop but it just starts up again. I'll have to try a phone reboot and if still acting up then uninstall.

Yeah saw that

Mine just gave it for the last few months it was giving incorrect data

Great, more ewaste.

The least they could do is open source the app so that the community can continue with fixes/added features and that the dongle doesn't become another paperweight.

What was the point of the dataplug really, spun as a benefit to us Audi owners but probably just a way to obtain our driving/behavioural data and that purpose has now come to an end?

The contract selling (y)our data to the insurance companies probably came to a close.

The only benefits i got from that device was
easy access to my VIN number via the app
I could see the fuel level when I was not in the car
I could also see the battery charge level

Apparently from that I just used it as a dust cover for my OBD2 port - I still use it as a dust cover for my OBD2 port

Guy with a 3.0TDi engines - what oil are you using?

I was using Liquimoly 5W40 then changed to the VW/AUDI 507 which is the 5W30. The difference i noticed that the 5W30 got better fuel economy however i noticed that the oil heats up and cools down much quicker ( looking at temps via the lap timer) but the engine does feel louder.

I have done almost 7000Km on this oil, this is the time i like to change my oil. Thinking of going back to Liquimoly Molygen 5W40 specs of the car are:

DPF deleted - so low ash is not required
CAT Deleted
EGR Deleted
Stage 1

Thinking the 5W40 might give it a little more protection and we do live in a "hot" climate, Also modern engine have every strict tolerances

Would you go 5w30 or 5W40? I normally stick with a trusted brand oil and oil filters I use, are mainly a Bosch or Mann filter

What mileage does the engine have?

I have used Liqui Moly Top Tec 5W30 in the past, not sure what VAG Spec uses as they service my Touareg annually, I can't remember the specifics but something like VW 507 5W30 is the specification for most 3.0 V6 TDi's. I doubt the 5W40 is going to give better protection, ignoring the specification, it is a thicker oil when at full engine running temperature.

507 is 5w30 fully synethic according with VAG

I have used top tec 5w30 once before as well.

Yesterday afternoon driving home from work its was around 32 degrees outside temp - the engine oil got to about 103 which I know is normal but when i use 5W40 I think the highest oil ever got was around 98 degrees - I know these full synthetics can take about 120 degrees before breaking down

194 000Kms
I think 5W40 is perfect considering we are in a hot climate and that engine has a good few kms on it so will have a bit of wear.
The only drawback is very slightly worse fuel economy.

Nearly run in...
The only scary part is I think i can hear the timing chain getting more pronounced, It does that loud noise on start up but when idling its very had to tell - Diesels engines make so much noises difficult to tell which is which. When timing chain goes you can see it via OBD where the degrees goes out normal timing should be between 4 to 12 and OBD shows mine at 4 degrees so dont suspect that the chain has stretched yet also I always inspect my oil for any "glitter" or plastics - I even cut open the old oil filters to see whats caught in it , so far nothing picked up yet

Mine is similar at 150k km's but I had it inspected last October and was told all is good. Two things to look out for are the oil/water heat exchanger in the V and injector seals, common issues on higher mileage 3.0 V6 TDi's.
