R10,300 to fix my driver's side headlight. Sigh...

Few months back - R6k to fix gearbox, after an R11k gearbox service 3 weeks prior to the failure.

Service 2 weeks back, R6.5k.

Starting to get very expensive to drive this car.
The problem might be that you go to the dealership for repairs.

Remind us please, which Audi are you driving again? :)

The headlight housing cracked and complete new unit needed or just globe/ballast etc?

Globe and controller something or other. Suddenly not so cool to have Xenon lights - lol.
Holy smokes, that's probably the xenon globe and ballast(the electrics that drive)/manage the xenon globe), that's the kind of part you will find on EBay.co.uk for a reasonable price, I'd take a look because that's almost like a consumable so I'm pretty sure they will be available aftermarket.

A5 3.2 FSi Quattro

All this said, no desire to get rid of it. Fantastic drive. Just hope this is the end of the cr@p now.

Motorite warranty covered nothing. Got zero benefit from the 3rd party warranty.
What were their reasons for not covering any of the issues you had?

In hindsight would you have extended the Audi freeway plan (at over 23k p.a. I'm assuming)?

They just said not covered under the plan. I went for the highest I could to ensure I would be covered, but...

So far my repair costs have come to about R17k. To extend the freeway plan was significantly higher from what I remember when getting quotes at the time. I do about 35k KMS per annum, so would have required time over mileage. Can't recall how it worked, but was just too expensive.

Am considering trading in and getting a newer A5 that is in plan still. Will see... The one I have is really well specced and think I will struggle to match it.

Car ready, just waiting for the broker to give me the insurance certificate !

From another dealership that the first one.

So far very happy but I drove 30km with. Time will tell overall.

I come from a much bigger Volvo which basically an indestructible tank but a nightmare petrolwise and for service costs.

Hi Everyone,

Just as a rough idea, and if you dont mind sharing, what does it cost for warranties, maintenance plans from eg Motorite or Hollard etc. Is it better to get both warranty and maintenance plan or just warranty? Is it even worth it? I intend to find a good indie mechanic as opposed to going to a dealership.

Im asking because the Audi that I've got on my radar (2012 A4 1.8T Manual with 102k kilometer) is out of service plan and would like to cover myself at least a little bit in case something bad/expensive goes wrong.

Thanks.

I've heard they work well enough if you read the small print, understand what they cover and follow the guidelines around servicing etc.

Okay I have found a very good ideal in my opinion. Going for a test drive tomorrow - found a true beauty! A4 1.8T FSI 2012 facelift model with VERY low mileage on.

I see they are getting massive flack in the US for the Super Bowl ad
