The Audi Thread

Yeah that would be fine too if you have enough battery for the dash lights to go on and be nice and bright.

If those aren't lighting up you'd need one very long hill and probably still fail.
Okay cool :D Will probably jump just to preserve energy. I left the lights on Saturday night for a couple of hours and the battery was a bit pap after work last night so I drove the car around for a bit to get a charge. Drove it this morning with the heater on and listened to the radio when I parked with the engine off and got a low battery warning after about five minutes. Tried to start the car and it made a few clicking noises but the engine didn't turn. I didn't try again as I would rather someone be there if it doesn't start this evening.

Thanks for the advice :)

Call your insurance.

Probably includes free Road side assist that covers this kind of thing.

Yes, just switch on the headlights before doing it.

Why?...
The owners manual specifically states to turn everything off for a 2011 A4

Honestly wish people would stop applying all the FUD they've heard over the years and simply refer to the owners manual

I will absolutely refer to the manual before I do anything but just wanted to know if it was possible before I arrange for my bro to meet me later.

That probably means your battery is ready for retirement. If you extended your motor/service plan batteries are covered by that last I checked.

It was exactly that. The battery was the original battery (6 years old). Me leaving the lights on just pushed it over the edge. Had it replaced for R1550 yesterday and all is well again.

Any recommendations for a reputable place to do a brakes service around Cape Town Milnerton or Tygervalley? Audi A3 2010 model. I've done 81,000km and I think it's on the original brake pads and is it discs?

No screeching or anything obvious going on but probably worth checking out and replacing pads if need be.

Use Hi-Q milnerton, prices are pretty decent.

No man you do that **** when it starts screeching or the dashboard tells you to do it. Pretty sure yours will have sensors, but even if it doesn't the screech is really the sensor in old school pads.

Brakes don't magically stop working all of a sudden.

Could do Wackers (Audi/VW specialist in Paarden Eiland) but you can't really just walk in there so Hi-Q as suggested probably a better option.

Ah ok, thanks gtx & SauRon. I'll wait then, if it ain't broke I won't fix it...

If you take a look at the brake caliper you should see a wire with a plug (usually white) coming out of it.

If that is there and plugged into something running into the car then you know there's a sensor and the dashboard will trigger a warning.

Looks like this...

Also while you are looking you'll probably get an idea of how much pad is left anyway.

Probably not on the original brake pads, but likely on the original discs.

Did mine at 120,000km if memory serves and although it had built up a bit of a ridge was still perfectly functional.

Word from the wise, have the pads checked...previous car's brakes started screeching...Audi advised wait for the dashboard indicator to light up. It never did, went to SupaQuik, had to replace the pads and the discs. The sensor wire was in bedded in part of the pad that still had covering.

The screeching is the “sensor” of sorts.

Nothing about the pads being over worn would have you replacing the discs any faster. They were simply due for replacement anyway.

And even then often this is a big money making racket and discs don’t really need replacing at all.

Also a lot of bull**** floats around about doing it at the dealer only because ABS Etc. It’s all nonsense, the systems are completely independent and there is also nothing to “reset” or any other crap people spew.

So I've had the oil light indicator on my B8 come on and needed to top up a liter. After filling up the light won't go off and the message is to fill up remains on.

I took it to Audi today to have it checked up, they say the bonnet sensor is not working - R2000 for the repair.

So I'm confused how can the bonnet sensor indicate that I have to fill up oil ? They manually checked the oil and there's enough but I need to fork out for a bonnet sensor

Anyone else had similar issues ?

Had the same thing. For some reason the bonnet sensor is part of the oil level measurement system. Was replaced under maintenance plan, so didn't know the cost. Just make sure they reset the system if you get a new one so that the calibrated level is correct.

Alternative is to get the dipstick that Audi use.
