The Audi Thread

I'm surprised there hasn't been anything like a class action lawsuit in SA regarding the oil consumption on these engines.

My driver’s door handle seems to get jammed and doesn’t open without using the key, it happened 4/5 times over the past 3 days.

Anybody ever had this happening?

Knowing how Audi/VWSA treat their customers, they'll probably tell you it's a wear and tear item.

It's not electronic in any way is it?

Wonder if it could be like the one touch up down thing that indicates a dying battery.

The passenger door and boot open fine, it’s only the driver door.

Will leave it until I have time to go to Audi, it’s not that bad yet.

Looks good, make sure the oil is the right brand and rating for the engine. Sometimes they use sup par oil to save money.

You might also want to check when the oil change is due on the gearbox.

sub par, helping a brother out.

The door lock/latch is a complete unit, it has little motors in it to operate the latch and lock. It could be the signal to it, like a bit of corrosion on the plug pins, or the motor has a dead segment on it then they replace the unit as there are no "serviceable parts" in it.

Thanks, it’s still under motor plan luckily.

Thanks they said they use ENGEN XTREME 5W40 fully synthetic oil.
Oops, I forgot to ask about the oil change on the gearbox. My 1st gear is not 100% so the mechanic mentioned it's fine for now (take it easy in 1st) but one day it will go kaput.

My right number plate light fixture melted last year and they replaced it. Will post pics and mention the price then. It's a whole unit and it wasn't cheap...

The oil consumption issue imo

1. Our 95 octane is poor quality and in out heat cause premature detonation.
2. Hypereutectic piston used is brittle when you have premature detonation and cracks the piston ring lands.
3. Manufacturers map car for efficiency not safe running engines.
4. Emission standards force manufacturers to use (ref limiters that cuts fuel) Again running lean and making the engine Det.

I don't know hey.

The whole diesel gate saga very specifically brought to light that all these defeat devices are kind of allowed and brushed over specifically because they protect the engine.

Regarding point 1, the issue is present in the US and UK markets? Is their fuel quality also poor?

Yeah I really don't think it's octane related.

Then all modern engines would be suiping oil and cracking all over the place.

This is just a faulty Audi design.
