True for a small population neither the model that came before the first gen EA888, nor those from the 3nd gen had the same issue. Also the issue was also with the 2.0T at the time which is also why the G6 GTI has the same symptoms.

Weird that they say BWA so specifically as that was the better engine of the Golf GTI V range and I didn’t know they shared the same engine numbers across the range.

Makes sense though and so it would be a good buy. I put 200,000km on a 2008 2.0T of the same model number and never had a single issue with the engine.

DSG gearbox started whining a bit presumably due to input shaft bearing wearing but was just an annoyance when I sold it not a real issue and irrelevant since you are going manual.

If the car looks good inside and out there’s a pretty good chance it was cared for reasonably engine wise as well.

Yup, engine and component sharing for many years. Often I bought certain parts from VW rather than Audi since they were cheaper there.

I've has the BWE (longitudinal BWA equivalent) in my DTM for years.

A few resources are available for the car. I tuned mine quite a bit so some of my issues are on the extreme side. I've had the engine built with forged rods, big turbo, intercooler, HPFP etc

Cam follower and Coilpacks are probably most prevalent. Coilpack is easier since there will potentially be a intermittent or constant misfire on a single cylinder. Check for the red coilpacks on top of the engine which are often referred to as R8 coils and have a much lower failure rate and a common modification.

The cam follower is harder to diagnose but could be pricey if neglected, it's a small part that costs about R500 but potentially result in damage to the High Pressure Fuel Pump or the camshaft. The engine has quite a ticking noise due to the direct injection, and a giveaway for a busted cam follower is an excessive ticking noise. So yeah, hard to spot.

Overall one of the best engines better that the ones that came just after it and was used in multiple models across the VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda range. Decent performer with decent mileage.

Dsg box can result in pricey repairs, from the mechateonic to the clutches, but a mixed bag.

Yeah I know they shared most of everything, just didn’t realise it went so far as the model numbers being the same as well.

If you looked under my car most of everything had Audi badges on rather than VW.

Good mention of the cam follower. I had a good mechanic that recommended replacing this at random intervals of “just in case” as the part was far cheaper to do than the result of it failing like you said.

The only other random thing I had was the PCV failing and making it sound like the good old fan belt noise which was quite amazing to me as I would never consider it to be an “air” noise.

There was a sticky on the old forum which also showed all the issues.

Given the car is at it's current age, I would recommend you get the full service history and ascertain whether certain components have been replaced, namely rubber bushings, camber, possibly shocks as well.

These are often neglected on older cars since they would have been out of pocket expenses, and may result in a little trouble over the hill. Speaking of hills check if the clutch has been done. It's a very rewarding vehicle to own.

Over time, VW has steadily increased its ownership of Audi in order to have access to its profits and reinvest those into the greater VW Group’s R&D. Complete ownership has alluded VW for quite some time, but this issue is now being resolved.

The VW Group has announced that it will pay a 48% premium for shares, buying out minority shareholders, to increase its current 99.64% stake to 100% of Audi.

Anyone know any good place to get Audi serviced in CPT (preferably Newlands) - apart from the dealership?

Last time I went there they charged R1000 to test the battery on top of "servicing" which in my book should include a battery test. Sick of there poor service and rip off prices (and now not even a lift back, Covid... Yeh right!)

Anyway rant over. Can I trust a Bosch service centre to do a Q3 2012 (140,000km), out of motor plan, normal annual service?
Or does anyway have a place they recommend?

I'm overdue for a service but now i'm worried about the ride back and having to catch an Uber twice on the day that i decide to go :unsure:

Not that side of the world unfortunately.

Engine Techniques in Brackenfell has always been good to me, but understandably out of your way.

I would find a VAG specialist and skip Bosch.

I'd also only go to a VAG specialist, you may as well start building a relationship with a garage that knows them inside out because when a VAG goes properly south only specialists can work on them.

Audi has announced a new two-year service plan for vehicles aged from six to 13 years old.

The Ingolstadt-based firm’s local arm says its new “AudiSmart” service plan can be purchased for vehicles which fall outside of the standard maintenance plans, with a maximum mileage of 270 000 km.

The plan covers two years or 30 000 km, whichever comes first, and includes two minor oil-change services at what Audi describes as a “significantly discounted” price.

So, how much are we looking at here? Well, Audi SA says the plan is priced “from R4 800”. We're guessing the final figure will be model dependent (see update below).

UPDATE: We've since discovered detailed pricing for the AudiSmart plans:
A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, Q2, Q3, Q5, Q7, TT: R4 800
All S and RS models: R6 000
A8, S8: R7 850
R8: R9 350

Any thoughts on this from the more learned folk on this forum? My car is reaching the end of the current plan, 5 years at the end of the year, 90k mileage. A3, so looking at R4800.

Does this cover the big service coming up - cam belt and water pump?
