The Audi Thread

hi ouens, please recommend an indepedent Audi mechanic in the Joburg North area who wouldnt mind to come to my place to check and or fix my B8. It doesnt start and i suspect there is something with the engine. Oil consumption fix was done under warranty at Audi
 
1.4TFSI Audi is due for its 150 000km service soon. Does this count as the 'Major' service? Anything in particular I should have them look at?

****ing taxis. Luckily nobody got hurt too badly but +1 for Audi's safety.
 
So my 10 year old Audi A3 coolant level has dropped below minimum, should i just top it up to halfway between MIN and MAX before driving it to the workshop and getting them to check out what the cause might be?

The warning light came on this evening (Sunday) and then i checked under the hood. I then recalled that I had noticed a puddle underneath my car (2 weeks ago, 8 November I think it was) when i was driving off somewhere in a rush, but then i didn't think anything of it (stupid i know). On 3 November i was rear-ended at the traffic lights but the only obvious damage was to my bumper and boot area. There is the remote chance that the impact caused something to give in front, right? But now to ask my broker if Santam will consider that as being part of the accident damage. I just had the bumper / boot damage assessed on Thursday afternoon, but at that point i didn't know i had a coolant leak.

My A3 is also overdue for a service by a few months, but my mileage is so low i could go 2 years before hitting 15,000km at this point. I didn't take it in before this due to lockdown.

Adding the coolant leak to the rear end damage would be hard to pull off, if the impact was that severe the car wpuld be a write off. Honest opinion is that it's an unfortunate coincidence.

Win win would he filling up with coolant, but just water will be fine too and take an extra bottle with you just in case on the way to the workshop.

Yeah just top it up same colour coolant. If it drops again then you have leak or something else is broken inside engine.

Top it up to max before driving it but make 100% sure you use compatible coolant because Audi uses some pretty specific stuff, best to get the coolant from Goldwagen.

Thanks, my friend said distilled water would be fine but I will check with my normal workshop where i plan on taking it to get sorted...

So my normal workshop said to top it up with water till I can get it to them or the place that will fix my accident damage.

I've done that, I don't see any leaking or new puddles. Will check again in the morning.

edit: If no signs of leaking now or in the morning, then i would assume it's losing fluid whilst driving. Is that something to be more worried about, or less?
