Audi steps up its EV goals - only electric cars from 2026

Audi is accelerating its transition to electric-only automaker with ambitious plans for all of its global factories making EVs by 2026. But it is 2026 that marks the end of new ICE-powered cars - it will be the last year Audi plans to introduce a new non-electric car. From that year onwards all new models will be electric only and the company will phase out the production of non-electric cars by 2023.

Rather than investing into building new factories, Audi has embarked on a giant undertaking of converting all of its manufacturing sites to not only produce electric cars but to become carbon neutral at the same time. The company is pushing its sustainability agenda with emphasis on economical, ecological and social aspects.

Audi’s response to the current global changes and rising demand for electric cars and the push for a zero-emissions future is what the company calls 360factory. Powered by renewable energy, with zero-emissions and carbon neutrality as a main focus, the factories of the future will offer the best working environment for employees and not only have no impact on their environment but will support local development on many different levels.

The company is contributing €500 million to retrain all of its employees to work in new high-tech factories. Audi’s factories in Brussels and Böllinger Höfe already are manufacturing EVs, next year the famous Ingolstadt will begin production of the upcoming Audi Q6 e-tron. By 2029 all of its global factories will be making electric cars - at least one model each.

Audi is following Tesla actually with its vertical integration and production simplification. The company is putting a lot of effort into simplifying the design and production processes of its cars and it looks like it will join the “giga-press” party with streamlined vehicle design touted as a solution. Audi wants to cut its global manufacturing costs in half by 2033 which is a huge target.

Is it for free for an Audi out of motorplan?

Its probably the mechatronics unit, can replace that for much cheaper.

She should be taking her car to VAGspec and not the audi dealer to service her car.

from twitter:

I took to to Audi Hatfield and I've been advised to replace something called the Megatron

Mechatronics units can be replaced without needing a new gearbox.

Dual clutch gearboxes suck.

It's sad that that manual gearboxes and the reliable torque-converter autos are being phased out for all these modern overly complicated dual clutch gearboxes all because of emission regs and fuel saving. Even worse when its a dry dual clutch too, not as smooth and they are prone to overheating in stop-start traffic in hot climates.

S-tronics with longitudinal engines (A4 and up) have wet clutches afaik.

I had a manual gearbox go on my Audi A3... sigh

I'm not sure the gearbox options are emissions related... some models like the previous generation Q5 had DSG gearboxes in SA, similar to German spec cars, whilst the American cars all had old school automatic gearboxes. The DSG boxes accelerate faster and I guess drive more "sporty".

Thanks for letting me know. Picking mine up Friday

Nope free to all Audi owners I am not on a freeway plan collected mine yesterday, It a cool device fits into OBD2 gives you alot of stats on the car.

I would assume the gearbox service broke the gearbox. They must have eskom grade technical staff working there.

I wonder which gearbox.
Zf has said if your gearbox was on serviced during the service intervals then dont service at all. I know they recommend 60 000Km then 120 000Km and then at 160 000km if it was never serviced after 160 000Km ZF will not touch the box from what I was told.

Its very cool, You can see alot of information on your car while you are away from your car. I love that it shows fuel in the tank in Litres I have that light bar fuel guage and can never judge that one correct ( am I at the beginning of mark, middle or end) So after I picked up unit yesterday car showed it 57 litres in the tank I did about 240km running around places when i got home it showed 51 litres and the battery gauge on the app is another lifesaver you can monitor the charge level in the battery so you know when the battery is going down.

Obivously I turned off the auto service booking I plan to service my car myself in 32 days time when the warning light comes on.

That is correct - also your gearbox oil affects the mechatronics module, they service department could have used the wrong grade oil

Or this could have been one of those CVT boxes you get on certain Audis those need to be serviced differently I guess without the whole story we will never know.
