The Audi Thread

Details were posted earlier in the thread but the car went in for an engine rebuild that wasn't coming to an end, so I went and fetched the car and saw that the interior was trashed.

Got the mats and stuff taken out now and I'm busy airing it out, then once it's dry I'll tackle the mould. I think because the car was on ramps for the last +-9 months, the water never reached the drains and it all ran back through the headliner to the interior of the car.
That sucks, did the guy at least finish the work on the engine?

I've been struggling to get clutch & flywheel for my Avant BFB.
Saw part at onlinecarparts.co.za but Hello Peter reviews not so good from some customers.

Yes and no. The engine runs, but the oil pressure is too high and keeps blowing past the seals on the oil filter housing.

So now the next step is to figure out how to get the oil pressure down within spec so that I can get it reassembled again. In the meantime I have an interior to tackle. Cracked the sunroof now to help get some airflow in, but the weather isn't really conducive to it as it's rainy and muggy here - got a fan pointing at the car's arse to try and get some airflow through at least and it's inside the garage too so no more moisture can make it's way in.

I also had to have the battery sent in for testing as it's dead and reading zero volts - hoping they can save it as it was purchased brand new just over a year ago:(

I've ordered from them but I wasn't too impressed with their service. They took about three weeks to complete my order, and I got zero feedback from them when it was stalled on their side. Eventually, I threatened them with a chargeback on my credit card and then things got moving again.

Unforuntunately, when my order arrived, items were missing, so after another handful of emails back and forth they said they didn't have stock and refunded me the difference after a few days.

Does not instill much confidence in their services

As much as I like to give companies the benefit of the doubt, I unfortunately cannot in good faith recommend them.

Have you tried Boss Auto Spares? There's also a WhatsApp group local to PE that I am on with a lot of the car shop guys on - PM me if you want me to add you.

Damn!
The battery is probably toast because the car sat for so long and a small parasitic draw killed it.
Any ideas why the oil pressure is so high, maybe blocked oil galleys or passages?

PIN in printed on the box on the side which has the barcode
Thanks, above the barcode on the back of the box is a 9 digit code which I see in the instructions is the part number. The instructions state the PIN is on a sticker on the outside of the packaging and on the dataplug itself. I think perhaps the packaging got discarded by the S.O. so I'll have to remove and check the dataplug itself next.

Bingo. The battery was on a trickle charge for the first few months, but then apparently...it wasn't anymore.

Still getting to the root cause of the oil pressure issue, but will have someone come take a look at it this week to quote me on doing the job.

I got stuck into cleaning the interior with a mixture of vinegar and water which seemed to eat at the mould quite effectively but will go at it for round two tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, the water dammed up between the roof and the headliner so the headliner is stained in places :(

That's torture, sorry man :(
That being said it should come out fine but not without a fair amount of pointless labouring.
The leather is thankfully holding up well to the solution I've applied and some light scrubbing. The carpet - it remains to be seen whether I'll get all the residue out, but so far so good as the OEM carpet is super plush and seems pretty durable. Unfortunately, this stuff got in everywhere, so I'll need to go over the whole car with a brush and some rags to try and get every last bit out.

When the weather is a bit better here I'll wheel the car outside, remove the seats and do a thorough job as the garage is a bit too narrow to work inside and I doubt I will be able to get the seats out without a big struggle.

WRT the oil pressure issue, I got some feedback on that...

A 1.8T oil pump was installed and the seized 2.0T oil pump removed, and the sprockets and guides amended appropriately as this seems to be a common mod done overseas. The only issue being that some people report very high oil pressures at startup, so a common fix is to fit the older 1.8T oil filter housing with a 06A to 06F adapter. This seems to be because on the 1.8T motor, the pressure relief valve (or pressure bypass valve, can't recall which one) sits on the oil filter housing whereas with the 2.0T they moved it to the oil pump. So when you install the pump off the 1.8T, you no longer have said valve which is why the adapter plate is needed to restore correct oil pressure.

The issue is that there doesn't seem to be any stock in SA, so I might have to import that adapter (~R5500 incl shipping) and source a 1.8T oil filter housing and oil cooler assembly (~R3k) to go with it.

Either way, progress is being made, ever so slightly. My heart hurts a bit to have received the car back in this condition, but the colloquial damage has been done and the only way to deal with it is to deal with it and do what I can to make it right again. I feel like I owe it to this car to turn it into a glorious vehicle again, considering all that it's been through thus far but a small part of me also wants to set fire to it and watch it burn

Ai, man what a vehicle journey you are having but it’s good that it’s just the oil pressure valve but those parts ain’t cheap, after all thats already been spent. Damn you sunken cost!

Option B is to walk into another Audi and ask them for a Dataplug

The sunk-cost fallacy is real, man

I found wynns brush off to work well on roof linings, unfortunately once they get wet they fall apart overtime.
I would also treat the leather afterwards. Turtle leather treatment i found to be quiet good and not expensive

Send me the part number for the part you looking for ,my brother is a ex audi mech and has some contacts that might be able to find it locally.

Ja I have some leather care from Wynns here that I'll apply once it's nice and dry, also planning on taking the headliner down to clean it properly as I bet there is some mould between the roof and the lining from all the water.

Thanks for the offer, the part is aftermarket though (adapter plate) but seems I may have to import it. But I have been in contact with a guy from VW Motorsport that is willing to assist me so will see what he has to say.

In my off time I've been battling getting the sunroof to open properly so I'll remove the glass later on and see if there is anything awry with the tracks. Also not getting any sound to the right-side speakers except for the tweeter so I suspect that the amp might be faulty as it sits in a well behind the wheel in the boot area and would have been one of the areas to have gotten wet since the car was sitting at an angle for 9+ months :(

Wow,it just seems to never stop. Hope it all comes right.
Speaker might just be corrosion on a contact or dead speaker.
My sunroof on the a4 tilts and opens but needs assistance to close traced it to a bad roller on a guide but i dont have the patience to look at it again.
Im still hunting for a windshield for my D2 A8 . They supposedly don't make them anymore. That car is a pain to keep going and has had me import parts to keep it going,i can understand the pain

@PhireSide this looks clean and low mileage!
