The Bafana Bafana Thread

It ended goalless last night:
If I was a football fan in South Africa, I would be insulted. I can't believe that people are made to pay to go watch another draw, goal-less, game from Bafana. And a friendly game as well. Well, it is not like there is anything to gain from a friendly anyway.

Time for Pitso to go. I have not seen Bafana play one inspired game since his take over. The last time I watched them play with purpose or inspiration was at the world cup.

He has made his millions. It's time for another coach to make his fortune as well. I'm available.

Pitso is a special kind of stupid, but SA lacks good players. Development doesn't exist in SA, so we don't produce many good players.

Is it fair to say then that it is not the brightest of futures for the team?

There are only 2 ways for SA to be a constantly tpp 3 in Africa top 30 in the worls team. The long and hard way is to get proper development going. Schools leagues in every little town and backwater in the country. Raise the level of varsity football, though this point is debateable. Stop clubs from moving cities, and force any team in the top 2 levels to have a youth academy. Revive the School of Exellence, to catch the rest of the talent. With this we'd need to start tracking and training kids propeerly from around 12.

That plan would take at least 10 years as that's wehn those first sets of 12 year olds would have been properly trained 22 year old profesionals.

The easier, quicker option, is to have SAFA find every semi-talented kid in an academy in the UK, USA, Europe or Australia who has an SA pasport or who can be given one, and convince them to play for Bafana.

SAFA have allowed to school of excellence to become dysfunctional by neglect and appointing their friends & cronies to run the school (into the ground). They obviously don't give a crap about development, they got paid millions by FIFA yet grass roots development (their own structures) continue to be plagued by political party like infighting, stealing & incompetence. There is a total lack of professionalism at SAFA.

Johannesburg - South Africa’s gradual slide down the FIFA World Rankings continued on Wednesday when they slipped to number 60.

Full story

It's to be expected, we've only had 2 official matches this year, both of them draws.

New rankings are in, and we fell 11 places. We are now number 71 in the world and 15 in Africa.

FIFA

We haven't played an offical match since January, so we just keep losing points.

Since there is no thread for women's football, I thought that I'd post this here:

Banyana Banyana have been drawn in the same group as the reigning world champions Japan for the 2012 London Olympics in the women's football category.

Banyana are in Group F with Japan, Sweden and Canada.

The top two teams from each of the three groups, plus the two best ranked third placed teams, go through to the last eight.

GROUP E:
Great Britain
New Zealand
Cameroon
Brazil

GROUP F:
Japan
Sweden
South Africa
Canada

GROUP G:
United States
France
Colombia
Korea DPR

Kickoff

banyana banyana deserve for media attention than their male counterparts.

Feamle sport doesn't get much attention. Sadly SA women's football is falling badly behind the rest of Africa. We still don't have a national women's league.

New rankings are in:

Johannesburg - South Africa climbed four places to 67th in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Wednesday.
Bafana Bafana, who have not played a match since they settled for a goalless draw against Senegal in Durban in February, moved back up the ratings list after tumbling to 71st place in April - the country's worst ranking since June 2010.

The South Africans also climbed one position, above Guinea, to 14th among African nations.

Without a win in their last six internationals, Bafana face Ethiopia in their next fixture, a World Cup qualifier, in Rustenburg on June 3.

Ivory Coast remained top of the African table, in 15th place overall, and world champions Spain retained top spot in the global list.

Glad Keet and Sandilands are in, hopefully one of them plays the friendly. Defenders, can't really complain, just hope Masilela can play both qualifiers. Seems unfair that Khumalo gets in without playing though. Maybe a young player like Xulu should be in.

Midfield, I assume Claason is still out injured. My problem is with Letsholonyane, he's only played 2 games and he's back in, similar problem for Serero.

Finally Nomvethe is back, but why is Killer there? He isn't even making the Sundowns team at the moment. I'm glad league form for Nomvhete was counted, but it looks like Pitso still has favourites.

Hopefully lack of club game time doesn't hurt us.

Yeah Khumalo and Letsholonyane shouldn't be there at all.
Eleazor Rodgers must be delighted. He probably thought he would never make it to BB.
