The Orlando Pirates duo of Oupa Manyisa and Siyabonga Sangweni have been withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to face Zambia in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on Wednesday.
Kick-off at Soccer City is at 8pm.
Sangweni missed Bucs' League clash against Free State Stars on Saturday because of pain in his knee, while Manyisa was substituted during the match after a thigh injury.
Gordon Igesund has called up Kaizer Chiefs defender Siboniso Gaxa, but Manyisa will not be replaced as the coach believes he has enough cover in midfield.
The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4HD and SuperSport 4 from 7.30pm on Wednesday.
FORMER 2010 Fifa World Cup chief competitions officer Dennis Mumble is the new chief executive officer of the South African Football Association.
Mumble,along-serving Safa staff member, was elevated after Robin Petersen was redeployed to head a newly established Safa Development Agancy.
Sad, shocking, disgraceful? No one showed up to this match. This amazing stadium, great opposition, dirt cheap tickets, and the crowd is tiny.
And this was a game we were supposed to take. Ouch & Eish!![]()
We did play the African champions
Johannesburg - Two boys, aged 12 and 13, have been taken into police custody for allegedly pelting the Zambian soccer team's bus with stones, the SA Football Association (SAFA) said on Thursday.
The South African national Under-17 side have faltered in the first leg, third round African Youth Championship encounter following their 3-2 loss to Ghana on Saturday at Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton.
SAFA says it is confident full-back Ricardo Nunes is indeed qualified to play for Bafana.
The left-back has made three appearances for the national team already but is a former Portugal Under-17 international and should have Fifa permission to switch his footballing nationality.
But Fifa says it knows nothing of an alleged application to make the switch, as previously claimed by the player and Safa.
In response to a query, a Fifa spokesman said via e-mail: "With regards to the player Ricardo Nunes, our services never received a request for change of association."
But Safa chief executive Robin Petersen said yesterday that no application for a change of association was necessary because Nunes never played a competitive match for Portugal.
"Because his games for the Under-17 team were friendlies only, we did not need to go through the change of association process.
"We did make a query with them and we have correspondence that clears us," Petersen said.
Nunes, born in South Africa but raised in Portugal where he was a junior at former European champions Benfica, is the first player who has competed for another country to then go on to win caps for Bafana Bafana.
He holds dual nationality.
