The Bafana Bafana Thread

Is the other match over already, it still looks in play on my live scores, Ethiopia leading 2-1. Come on CAR, just 1 goal!
 
It's over, Etiopia win 2-1, to top Group A. Bafana are out of the world cup, we finish 2nd on 11 points, with 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.
 
This was the weakest qualifying group of any confederation group.
Ethiopia are going to get hammered at the world cup.

You can't simply drop them, there's still other AFCON to play and older players can help with qualifications, but yes focus should be mainly on building toward the next WC. They actually should maybe do like Egypt and build an under 23 team Bafana team to qualify for the olympics and build up from there.

Oh yes, except our U23 team doesn't have a coach, and hasn't played since December 2011!

I know it's a total mess. I was listening to that "shoes" guy campaign for SAFA presidency and dodging issues such as what is happening with all the lower level structures and talking as if he's not been in SAFA for eons. Mind you Shoes is president of the schools soccer associations in addition to being the current SAFA vice president which says a lot really.

SAFA destroyed the school of excellence by making it a jobs for pals scam and employed cronies, family members, etc to run it into the ground. I wonder why transnet don't just take it over and run it professionally like in the past. And what's happened with all the money and equipment from WC 2010 as SAFA are supposedly insolvent or near enough not to matter.

The School of Excellence is no longer funded by Transnet, and SAFA kept re-deploying coaches there, since it was cheaper than firing them.

We still don't have an Under 20 league, though it's more a PSL issue. SAFA hasn't done enough for schools football. As for the equipment, most of the buses and laptops have been sold.
 
Bafana take on Zimbabwe tonight at 8.30, coverage is on SABC1 and SS4. Darren Keet is expected to start, and will be the only internationally based player used. All Pirates players have also been released.
