The Bafana Bafana Thread

Their ariel game is better, they have much taller players. The header was well worked.

It sucks that we conceeded so quickly again.

So what happens if we beat ghana and algeria win? Would be Algeria 6, Senegal 4, south africa 4 ghana 3. Head to head between senegal and us would be the same. Would it then be total goal difference?

We no longer control if we will advance though. We need to beat Ghana and hope that Senegal and Algeria do not draw.

Such a pity that it has come down to mathematical permutations.

Goalkeeping department is seriously hurting us. We qualified on the back of the late Senzo's leadership and ability to keep clean sheets. All the goals conceded in Mashaba's tenure were after Senzo's death.

The defender didn't compete with that dude. He ended up jumping next to the dude. Should have been jumping into him to put him off. Slight push also effective. Very disappointing to concede such a simple goal.

If defenders were that polite in England wee would see much more headed goals. And here you can get away with much more.

England has an extremely physical league.of our defenders, I think that Ngcongca is the only one based in Europe. Most of our players arwn't used to that level of play.

Not that complicated to jump into a player when he goes up surely.

Tonight's staring XI:

Brilliant Khuzwayo (GK), Anele Ngcongca, Thabo Matlaba, Rivaldo Coetzee, Eric Mathoho, Dean Furman (C), Andile Jali, Mandla Masango, Thuso Phala, Tokelo Rantie, Bongani Ndulula

I wonder what's wrong with Parker? He's our most reliable goal scorer. We have to win tonight, but that will not ensure progression.

Going in I said that we were in a tough group. We don't have the same class of players as the top African sides. Hopefully this is the start of an upswing in SA football. Perhaps more importantly, Shakes needs to get his ego in check. I see SA winning, but still being eliminated.

Kickoff is at 8pm.

So third keeper change in as many games.

Now yes on paper this was the toughest group, but having watched the games the opposition wasn't on fire either and all of the games were winnable.

Oh well: someone must do it, this is what it always boils down to:

TO make it to the knockout stages...
A win for Bafana will see us through to the knockout stages if Senegal beat Algeria.

If Bafana win and Algeria draw (we will both be on four points), Bafana will lose out because of head to head.

If Bafana win and Algeria also win, goal difference will separate Bafana and Senegal.

All these scenarios require us to win...:erm:

What scenario has us winning but not qualifying? Maybe that would be a better way to look at it since us having to win is basically a requirement then.

If Algeria beat Senegal, we go out even if we win.
