The sodium that one flushes out initially is actually the excess sodium that accumulates when one is eating starchy carbs. Once off those carbs a larger amount of sodium is not an issue as your body will now get rid of the excess continuously instead of storing it. In fact, in spite of having high blood pressure, when I went seriously low carb my doctor warned me not to skimp on salt - he's very much in favour of lowcarb/high fat. As it happened, once I had lost a significant amount of weight I was able to come off one of the blood pressure meds.
That's awesome.
I'm on BP meds myself but not a diuretic. Would love to come off completely but it is a genetic thing, so not likely.
Took a while for me to figure out it was the lack of salt that made me feel a bit down. Especially because I was always hesitant with salt due to my BP issue. Always been supplementing with Magnesium so I knew it wasn't that.
Was having up to 12 cups of coffee a day due to feeling tired the whole time.
Then somebody on r/keto suggested I up my salt to triple my current usage for a week and report back. Haven't looked back since. My meat, salads, mashes, purees and soups are loaded with salt. And it tastes so much better now too because I was always doing as little salt as possible.
Still enjoying my coffee but I rarely have more than 3 cups a day. Not needed anymore. And intensity of my workouts also went up. Always feel like I have it more left in the tank now.
