The Banting/LCHF Thread

Things not going well. I tried some stuff over the weekend and have picked up a little weight. Dropping those kark ideas and getting back to what I know :( BPC for breakfast this morning, bacon and eggs for lunch.

Weight can be deceptive... what kind of weight is the question - water? I'd love a good body composition monitor - not those cheapies doing the rounds here.

If you're going to buy in bulk, almonds were R185/kg at Dischem last I heard, and about R220 or so at Fruit & Veg/Foodlovers Market

Need some suggestions for which oil to use in homemade mayo.

Coconut oil make a very good tasting mayo, but solidifies when its put in the fridge.
Olive oil tastes disgusting!

Any other flavourless oils out there that are banting safe?

Almond?

but is that carb and sugar content not too high? (don't know, that's why i'm asking)

That depends on how many carbs you are planning to eat during the day and i guess how much of the particular food you are going to eat.

Those nuts are 10% carbs, my mathematical skills tells me that would fall under "low carbs" . Milk has about 5% carbs , yoghurt usually have about 10% carb too, and that is considered "low carb" . Now, the catch in all this is, and that is why they say you should be careful with the diary. Milk might be low carb, but it is VERY easy to down 500ml of milk = and suddenly you just took in 25g of carbs in a few seconds . In contrast eating 100g of nuts = 10g carbs , which is an entire packet and will most likely last alot longer than a glass of milk.....

So in the end i think you need to weigh up things like "how much i am i going to eat of this per session" and "how filling is it" .

I have found nuts makes me thirsty, so i end up drinking a glass of water for every few nuts = very little carbs and i am still full. Now yoghurt on the other hand, i can eat / drink that all day long and end up eating more carbs that way despite the low carbedness of the yoghurt.

Increase the egg yolks and substitute some MCT for coconut

Also, after a month on LCHF, the first guy has become pre-diabetic.

You can't feed somebody low carb, and then give them a glucose tolerance test!!!!! Of course the body won't be able to clear out the sugar if your body has become adapted to burning ketones! They have to resume eating carbs for a number of days, BEFORE doing the glucose tolerance test. As I said above, that documentary is horse ****.

That documentary made me cringe every 5 minutes. It's riddled with pure nonsense and is not worth even watching. The protocols were clearly put together by somebody with zero grasp on the science AT ALL.

Aah, two doctors.
What about the catabolic effects of low carb?
Of the 4kg the LCHF dieter lost - 2kg was muscle IIRC.
