The Banting/LCHF Thread

Started last week Monday. Will check tomorrow morning if I have lost some weight. The BP coffee is ok. I normally have my coffee black with no sugar. I did not get all the extra energy everybody is taking about.

Did you use MCT oil?

Just got back from a week of holiday in Cape Town. Wife and daughter went mental with every food imagineable - I stayed strong.

I stayed LCHF throughout and only cheated with a burger king burger on 2 occasions. I also had to have a McDonalds quarter pounder this morning while driving as I didn't feel like stopping at a Wimpy \ 1 stop and McD was the only thing available at the pumps I stopped to fuel at.

All in all I am very happy. Will weigh tomorrow and see what the scale says. Each burger was only 46 carbs (asked them to remove the sauce) so damage can't be too bad.

MCT oil raises blood ketones very quickly which is where the energy comes from. Coconut oil won't have the same effect.

Went and bought a bottle of MCT oil from our local Dischem. (last one they had) Will try this instead of coconut oil.

Measure the damage over two days

For the label experts, why is this not acceptable?

Its a type of concentrated cooldrink.

Not too bad, but unnecessary sugar imho

I know this is not banting....but just made a lamb chop burger......niiiiice :D

One can do these things in a carefully planned reward system

Seeing food as a reward is a major psychological problem. It's fuel, no more.

+1

Story of my life. Only now after quitting sugar and refined foods do I see that I was caught in the vicious cycle of food reward.

Ok so you two don't enjoy any food....just a means to an end, yeah right

Of course I do, but I don't convince myself that I "have earned" such and such food item or meal. I stick to LCHF and eat when hungry and I eat whatever I want including legal dark chocolate. There is no longer a food addiction hanging over my head and my weight has remained constant, give or take a couple of kg's.

The point is that you dont see your "diet" as a diet, which is hard work and needs some incentive. You should try and make it as close as you can possibly come to "this is normal", normal does not deserve an award.

When you've achieved that, then you have turned a diet into a lifestyle.

Example: my whole life, when going on holiday I would have this urge inside just to eat and eat without restraint. First stop would be a Spar to load a trolley from the sweet and chip isles. This last holiday in Cape Town I merrily walked along the isle while my wife chose contraband for her and my daughter while I was quite happy to take 2 slabs of Lindt 85% and some packets of nuts.

Completely new experience for me.
