The Banting/LCHF Thread

My daughter had a friend over and my wife decided to make them chocolate squares (she calls them doodskissies). Anyway, it's been months since I last had something sweet over my lips, so I helped myself to a few (quite a few). Jislaaik, was I sick last night.

been there but with me its bread or any refined wheat flour .... puts me in the ****ter with cramps
and the works! but give the caring candy ppl a try they deliver and you can buy online. Helped me
kick the sugar cravings in a big way

I'm looking to get started on this. I'd go through the whole thread but I really don't have time. Any advice/tips for beginners? I drink about 4l water a day anyway and will be walking home from work from now on (1.7km) so there's a bit of exercise 4-5/7 days a week. Plus sexercise at least twice a week :p

Anyway, I believe the most difficult part is gonna be giving up potatoes and pasta for me. And another person who is joining me isn't going to stop drinking beer. Should he bother with it at all in the first place if he's not gonna stop drinking beer?

He might as well leave it. He can have 1 castle lite once in a blue moon, but just know that alcohol will stifle weight loss. Whiskey and water won't make you gain, but it won't make you lose either.

Tips? Plan your meals ahead of time... make sure you always have ingredients... get some side dishes... maybe like 6 or so, that you can do over and over... side dishes has always been my Achilles heel.
Also, be strict. Don't indulge in anything, even if it is the right kinda thing, if you are still looking to lose weight. Keep to the right quantities while in weight loss mode.
And stay FAR away from anything sugar and starch.
Profit.

Beer is a problem as it contains quite a bit of carbs. The most difficult thing for me was bread. Avoid bakeries like the plague otherwise, be honest with yourself, restrain from eating carb foods: bread, pasta, rice , potatoes. If you have a sweet tooth , check out the higher cocoa lindt chocalates. There's tons of recipes in this thread and you really won't feel it if you experiment.

I have about 1.5Lt beer (Homebrew mind you) just about every single night & still managed to drop 6Kg the first 2months. I'm not a full-on banter, just decided to cut out most carbs & sugar from my diet. ;) ... sure the 6 could have been 12 if I dropped beer, but nothing is chasing me :)

Thing is, he's not actually looking to lose weight, just to get his beer belly down. But he won't stop drinking beer. Sense? :p

Anyway. What do you snack on during the day? I turn into a ravenous beast if I don't eat at least twice a day. Even if it's just a packet of chips or something really small, I struggle to go 3-4 hours without eating something. Smoking times at work don't help either cause usually I smoke when I can't eat. I can't smoke when I want to at work so that leaves eating :p

SA has the easiest snack for banting: biltong! I nom on cherry tomatoes, cheese ( non processed ) , biltong and some nuts ( almond or pecan, low quantities! ).

I wish I could say I could snack on almonds, unfortunately "just one more" ends up being "just one more packet" :D

Normal biltong only or is the bbq ones also okay?

Long as its proper biltong. Be careful of dry wors as it depends what is mixed in. Also if the biltong is "spiced",flavored in any way as a sauce may be sweet ie: chutney biltong.

Woolworths has Blue Elephant coconut cream @ R46.95 two for the price of one.

Little deli next to woolies in furrow road, equestria has extended their range of Banting products. Selling bread, cauliflower bases and Banting meals.

Looks like most shops are jumping onto the band wagon. Which is great since that means there will be cheaper alternatives.

Im still waiting for a cauliflower rice sushi to come out :)

wish there was some king of guide / list to show banting friendly stores and eateries in each city ...

Pizza Perfect near us is going to be doing banting bases made from sweet potato soon. Not sure if it's a national thing or just this branch.
