Anyone tried this Belgium 85% dark chocolate? R 24.99 a 100grm slab at dischem. Looks like an alternate to Lindt.

If your triglycerides level is below 1.3, eat and be merry. Total cholesterol means jack.

Thanks, I'll have to get a more thorough blood test done then.

Where can you test your HDL, LDL and triglyceride without having to go through your doctor?

Any PATHCARE or AMPATH lab will help. Insist on paying cash. If you use medical aid they will want to send results to a doctor and not give them to you.

Had a pleasant surprise this weekend. Found a "large" mans scale for sale at Dischem. Bought it and for the first time in many years can comfortably weigh myself at home. But the nice surprise was the fact that I'm two kilos less than I thought, probably because I wore shoes etc when weighing and now not.

And if someone asks why the shoes, you walk in a warehouse barefoot and step on a scale :p

I still have 3/4 of a slab of 99% in my kitchen cupboard. I picked one up at Woolies a month ago to try it.

Comments:

*A 99% slab is only 50g and not 100 (the blocks are half the thickness of a normal slab - same sized sneaky packaging though
*BITTER!
*Tastes earthy, almost like ground would taste like (I imagine)
*It's fo$$en bitter - great for conning a 4 year old (she went screaming down the passage to mom)

I got caught out by the weight of the 99% slabs too... thought it was 100g, was only 50g. I eat it with coffee with cream in it, so I don't find it that bitter. If you're eating it on its own though I can definitely understand. If I wasn't eating it while drinking coffee I'd probably use it to scoop up butter or cream cheese or mascarpone or ricotta or something.

On that note, medium fat cream cheese is R35.95 at Woolies (R32.35 if you have a WRewards card). Time for me to stock up and eat cheese cake for the next month!
