The Banting/LCHF Thread

We'll be in Cape Town next week. Please advise where there are banting markets we can check out, or which shops offers a good variety of banting products or ingredients.

My weight loss has been stagnant for the last few weeks. Weighed this morning and I dropped a kilo. Started from 108kg with a personal goal of 100kg. I'm at 96kg now, 1kg more than my wife's goal for me, which is 95kg.

We're banting for 5 months now, with lots of cheating.

Komati foods in Observatory (Lower Main Rd)- nice selection of nuts, nut-flours, nut-butters, dried fruit, health foods etc.
The Wellness Warehouse in Kloof Street has some nice stuff too.

I was very unimpressed with Komati Foods. After spending 20 minutes finding parking by going up and down the narrowest 2 way street I have ever driven in in my Ranger, Komati felt like the contents of the wellness food isle at Dischem squashed into the size of a double toilet stall. Never again...

I find the quality of what they sell to be consistently good and they make an effort to source items that haven't been candy-coated in pesticides. Right behind Komati - the street that runs parallel to Lower main - there's a Spar with a paid parking lot.

Banting Results

So

I have since the 3rd of August been banting. Sometimes strictly... sometimes a little off the wagon. (Condiments/Drinks) I have had no bread and sugar filled drinks. I have lately been making some food with a little flour to thicken here and there, no more than 2 tsp per meal (Maybe once a week). I have been drinking Coke Zero on very few occasions.

When I started this journey, I weighed in at 165kg... I am proud to say that this morning when I stepped on the scale it returned the figure of 145kg to me.

It is such a joy to do all the basic things that was adversely affected by that extra 20kg. I have done 2 fun runs now... The 9.8km Sole Teaser and the Daily Dispatch 8km in the past 2 weeks respectively. If we go back 3 months and tell me I would do a 9.8km paced walk within 1h30m I would have laughed at you.

Wow! Amazing stuff - well done! I hope you have been saving for a new wardrobe!

I have been wearing my pants unbuttoned up until the start of this, as well as wearing my shirts over my boep. Basically hanging out under my shirt.

My old shirts (3XL) are now covering my stomach completely. My jeans are fitting again.... still a bit tight around the thighs but I can comfortably button them.

My belts fit me again, (I use a motorcycle strap as a belt, I do not dress formal, ever, so this is/was acceptable and I actually prefer this over my belt now)

feels good right, well done and keep it up! :)

Banting is getting easier by the week now, so many places stock the goods, no more hassling to find this and that. Today I discovered a whole shelf in a Food Lovers Market that was just rusks and cookies and Caring Candies, most awesome.

You have dropped 20kg in 6 weeks, frikken awesome.

For thickening try use coconut flour - it is not expensive and LC friendly.

Coke 0 is still bad, try drop that if/when you can.

Heres to your next 6 weeks and hopefully at least another 10kgs drop!!

I will look out for your report back 1/11:D

I've come off the coke light/zero and now enjoy a cold glass of soda water if the need arises for a colddrink.

To be honest, while I think that's awesome, please watch out for your knees.. 145kg is still a bit heavy for impact exercise like running.. If you want to exercise maybe try swimming, it'll be a lot better. Or even lift - squats/deadlifts.

Hi is doing it at a paced walk, knees should be fine. Walking 9.8 km is not too shabby, especially carrying 145kg!

I also walk, would love to swim, but **** virgin and their rates if you not on discovery and **** discovery and their rates :erm:
