The Banting/LCHF Thread

Kiri is cream cheese, high fat as well. What's wrong with that?

He didn't specify which one it was or whether he should eat it, he just asked if it's processed, which I said it was.

That being said, why not rather have a more natural food rather than something processed?

Ya, I am on betablockers. I will never come off them because I have AF.

When do you propose to eat those, in the morning?

Eat which, fatty foods? Whenever you feel cravings or hunger outside of meals. My daily is pretty much a low carb shake in the morning, lunch of salad with protein ( leftover chicken or boiled eggs, anything) and supper which is a low main meal. Between I snack on cheese or low carb cookies.

Wife makes all my food including the cookies.

Okay, I have proof that my scale is broken. It says I havent lost any weight in 4 weeks. Impossible. I have already dropped a waist size!

Anyway, I got the real meal revolution from a friend of mine. I am checking out the recipes, and often they use a blender or food processor. What is the difference? Do you guys have any recommendations on blenders and food processors?

Have you tested your cholesterol since you started the banting life style?

Perhaps you have gained muscle?

Doesn't mean your scale is broken, just shows you that scales are not that useful for body composition changes.

Well the proof was, I stood on the scale then picked up my bike which as atleast 5kg and the scale didn't even move by 1 kg

Any banting curry recipes here?

Good point, I love indian food, but now no more naan bread :(

Also, what Japanese food is banting friendly. So far I have only had some sashimi. But I miss California rolls!

I see that active sushi has a banting version of everything. Has anyone tried it?

Guys, you can have curry, just use cauli rice or florets as a base for the sauce. We regularly have a green thai chicken curry, wife eats it on rice, I have it in a bowel with cauliflower florets.

Must taste like crap then? :p

I think I am not getting enough roughage. What is a good source of roughage on a banting diet?

LOL getting hard to shizzle? hehe

I bought some psyllium husks from dischem and drank them daily when things got a little tough :D

Or:

Exercise! This helps your gut to work more effectively, digesting everything much more quickly. Exercising also increases your nitric oxide levels, which helps your colon to empty. The best exercise, experts have found, is walking.

• Cut down on caffeine and alcohol! Studies have shown that drinking large volumes of both of these have a diuretic effect on the body. Coffee increases urine production as does alcohol.

• Don't over-eat! Too much protein (and food in general) in the body means your liver and kidneys have to use lots of water, which will dehydrate you. Also, being overfull means that you're less likely to want to drink water.

• Tuck in to natural laxative foods! The following foods, spices and herbs are reputed to be natural laxatives: prunes, aloe vera, sour figs, cayenne pepper, turmeric, ginger, garlic, citrus fruits, omega-3 fatty acids, beans, avocados.

Also, tuck in to foods that are rich in natural probiotics, such as kefir (a fermented milk drink similar to yoghurt) and sauerkraut.

Prebiotics (provided by bananas, berries, asparagus and onion) can also do the trick. These are plant components that promote colon health because they increase the bulk of the food that passes through the colon and also serve as food for 'good microorganisms' or probiotics.

• Fibre supplements! If the above tips sound like too much effort, a supplement is the last resort. Psyllium husks are a good bet – get sachets at your pharmacy. However, remember to drink lots of water with it – this is soluble fibre that absorbs water like a sponge.
