I'm guessing it has a bit to do with everyone running out of cash over xmas, so very little interest in throwing money you don't have at a volatile market you don't trust.

I'm not a huge fan of the spikes in either direction lately. Each time you refresh luno you'll see a few thousand difference in price. Makes buying or selling nothing but a pain.

So I see one can now transfer your BTC nicehash earnings to coinbase for free.

Anyone here have a coinbase account? Can you trade and move crypto away from it without needing to go through verification? I see under accounts limits nothing, it tells me to contact my local government ;) just worried I won't be able to move the funds from coinbase once traded to whatever.

bought in at 190 so already feeling miffed, how long will this decline go on and were we stupid to buy this high? always that little fear in the back of your head that btc is returning to its original value before the massive spike started

From past experience bitcoin has always returned and exceeded after dips. No guarantees but based on this experience you should just hold and be patient. Alternately you can sell now and buy back in when it's dropped R50K, that way you end up with more coin. If you call it wrong though you are so screwed. Also make sure to avoid 'taker' fees.

Should be fine... doubt it will drop much lower... tons of support sitting at 12k'ish, gonna take some serious whales to blow through that lot, and don't think theres enough players atm to chip it away slowly before people get back from holidays etc over next few days. Should start picking up again soon... however, if it does somehow manage to blow through the 12k support, it'll be a very rapid drop, with a very rapid climb

Remind us how long you have waited thus far?

This is where some sort of consumer protection regulations on exchanges would be usefull. Because at the end of the day it's the most efficient/easiest to just store it on a exchange

Not sure how you think a consumer watchdog will deter North Korean hackers...

When bitcoin is doing crazy-price faces - rather invest in some altcoins that have yet to make crazy faces. And yeah, I know it's easy in hindsight to give advice, bitcoin could've gone on to even higher prices. I prefer to just stick to the rule of not buying in at all-time highs. You can either buy something else, or wait for the inevitable pullback and then buy in.

You generally want to buy something when it's red on the charts, not when it's green.

And yes there will be exceptions. There will be times when you buy high and it goes even higher. I just prefer to have a hard rule of never buying high. Ever. If you've bought high and haven't sold yet, just hold for a month or two.

A bit more about Bollenger bands in this book
It's never easy to tell whether you're buying high or not except in retrospect. The trick is to learn to use leading indicators which are never foolproof but can go a long way to prevent entering the market at the wrong point.

you can't have active positions with passive rules, makes no real sense
