Not going to stay there for long given BCH is on a strong run ATM. Needs to be crushed!!! :p

It also went up a bit too fast on Luno just now so it will come down a little. Broke through R125k and just kept going whilst USD charts were flat. Saw the push happening so I jumped on at R125k (even though R125k was not really cheap) and jumped off at R125.5k.

Hi,

Just wondering where is the best place to buy a bitcoin? Looking to buy 0.5-1 btc.

Is it still worth buying one now or do we think the value will drop alot or is there some other "currency" I should look into buying?

How do you buy/sell without losing out massively on fees? Do you just set buy/sell orders or what? When I sold my BTC via the Luno app I got charged massive fees.

I'm prolly the last person on here to give advice but we're expecting a dip, possibly a big one, within 2 days. I think the easiest way in SA is to open an account on Luno (their rep is active on here and very helpful) , submit your authentication details which allows you to deposit more funds from SA banks into your luno wallet, which can then be used to buy Bitcoin / Ethereum directly.

As for which currency to buy, if we knew, we'd be rich. Bitcoin Cash is shooting up now again, but it can crash just as easily.

Luno only charges for instant buy and sell, no charge for listing and waiting for the order to be fulfilled, which is nice.

I thought with the possible ratings downgrade on Friday that most were of the opinion that Bitcoin will spike?

That has no effect on global (US, really) price of BTC. SA price will follow US price...I guess there could be an increase in the premium of ZA BTC price over US BTC price...but I wouldn't expect it to be that significant.

Awesome, I need to get myself more aligned with that.

For local ZAR / BTC prices yes. But the global BTC price is expected to drop on Friday/Saturday (with the local exchange adapting soon after).

I've already got a Luno account but was wondering if there is a place that sells at a lower rate / closer to actual price of bitcoin?

So should I gamble and wait to see if the dip happens and then buy or is it only a slight possibility?

I want to get one as I had a chance to buy 2 months ago when it was selling for R55-R65k and didn't.

I place orders and hope someone buys/sells. Just have to be quick to get in front of the que when a push is happening. Sometimes it's better to wait and watch for an opening.

maybe try ice3x. they a bit slower but another option.

However there's talks of the bottom falling out under BTC in 2 days' time with the miners possibly moving over to BCH. I've now finally learned that instead of panic selling this is an opportunity to buy in more. :o Just curious how far it's looking at dropping.

Wouldn't be too surprised if it drops down to R80k before everyone come to their senses again.

You can see when it will cost you money. I just bought some more with zero fees...

Buying I think I get: set a buy order for less than the lowest sell (red?) order and its a maker order with zero fees. Its the selling I cant figure out.

Lets say current price is 124 802. I want to sell if it hits say 124 799 so I set a sell order. Of course there are buy orders (green?) all th way from the current price down so how do i slot in to be a maker on a buy?

Don't sell, HODL...

Yeah i just set an order and it cost me the 1%. Im not understanding how Luno works....

It depends on whether you're a "maker" or "taker", takers pay the 1% fee, makers don't pay anything. Basically if you take an order off the book by buying at the current lowest selling price or sell at the current highest buying price you are a taker. The opposite would apply to be a maker. You can find more info on google about makers and takers. I believe Luno lets you know if you are going to pay any fees when you are setting the order. And always avoid the instant buy/sell.
