The BMW 320d Fanboy Thread

Only complaint I have of my 330D F30, is that it just have too much power.
Pulling away you look like a show-off when other cars are left far behind.
So i am regularly in economy mode. and even that has not kept the speed fines at bay.
Wanted a 320D, but found a nice 330D so took it. Since 2019, no problems, just regular service.
Sitting at 180K and driving still smoothly
BTW, it's stock standard, Modern edition, for the ou toppies. LOL
My previous beemer was an 320I e46, had it for 16 years and 340K on the clock and it was still going strong.

My mother in law had one of those, never had a days crap, hers sold with about 500k Km , no major work, services only

I know exactly what you talking about you just take off from the light and the tyres are lighting themselves up and it makes you look like an idiot, I drive with traction off all the time from back in the days on every car I owned except when its raining or the road is wet, this makes the wheel spins even worse.

I used to own an E46 320i - in my car ownership on of the best cars ever owned, It didnt have power like a 330i but it had adequate power for anything you needed to do. The sound of the straight 6 through the factory exhaust is a note you can not get tired of esp when you floor it in higher gears.

Does your 330d use exhaust fluid ( adblue) out of curiosity?

check service history , and the condition of the car. 330d pre LCI didnt have many issues I know the 4 cylinders pre LCI had that dreaded timing chain stretching issue. Dont think it affected the 3.0's but I stand to be corrected.

Check engine mounts
gearbox mounts
When last the gearbox oil was changed BMW says its lifetime oil dont listen to that.
engine oil change intervals
its a going on 13 year old BMW you know gaskets are gonna be giving up so look for the leaks

If the car was maintain properly the only thing you might need to do is control arm bushing which are common on BMW and not very expensive to change out. Given its a 3.0 6cylinder its a heavy engine and its a diesel which means its a stronger made engine to cope with the compressions a diesel engine faces so it will put more strain on the front suspension.

Some good advice here.

Well looked after, non abused E90's are becoming like hens teeth. If it passes all the service checks it's a solid buy.

It's an older car, be prepared to fork out some money for maintenance along the way. I owned one for a few years and it was sublime.

Don't listen to others complaining about "too much power", this is an illusion created by consuming too much soy milk.
 
In my view, if said BMW is a 20d, 30d, or 35d its good to go. The more powerful 40d, and 50d I may be a bit more hesitant.

So, I went for a test drive in the 320i on Saturday and I think my expectations were too high. It's a really fancy-looking car, drives like a dream, and has all the "fancy gadgets" I want, but the wow factor wasn't there. That and the fact that the average fuel consumption stood at 10km/l

I'll be looking for a 2.0d going forward. Thanks for everyone that gave input

Open road ( when it works) will give you around 17-18 Km/L

I do more urban driving, so the diesel would be ideal. I'm getting around 16km/l in the Ecosport with urban driving at the moment and going back to petrol with higher consumption would be silly.

From a reputable dealer? If service history is up to date , should be fine, you can put the vin number in on the bmw website , and see it’s last official service from bmw to get an idea

Do not go for the 320i unless you are looking for engine problems.
