Next BMW M2 Will Not Get Optional XDrive Says Report

Since rumours about the next-generation BMW M2 started, it was assumed that it would be offered with an optional xDrive all-wheel-drive system, similar to the M3 and M4.

To us, it made total sense as the new M240i already comes with xDrive, so the tech works with the chassis and transmission.

At the moment, it seems BMW M is far more inclined to use xDrive all-wheel-drive now, as the M3, M4, M5, and M8 all have it. However, according to sources of BMW Blog, the new M2 will be a rear-driver only.

One of the reasons for this is weight and if they want to aim it at purists, they don’t want any additional weight if not necessary.

New 2022 BMW M2 drops disguise in final months of testing

Hot coupé will hit the UK this year with a more powerful six-pot and a wider spread of dynamic ability

The second-generation BMW M2 will have even stronger performance and more versatility than the well-received current model when it reaches UK showrooms by the end of 2022, according to insiders.

The new version of M division’s smallest model is based on the upcoming third-generation 2 Series Coupé, which has been comprehensively re-engineered with a revised line-up of longitudinally mounted engines, a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, an updated platform, a significantly stiffer body structure and more advanced electronic architecture.

The changes provide the new, G87-generation M2, which is now testing in relatively light camouflage as its reveal nears, with much closer engineering ties to other M models than today’s M2 has. M division insiders say this will enable the new M2 to offer a further step up in performance while helping it to retain a reputation for dynamic excellence through the sharing of key components.

New BMW M2 Spied Sporting Normal Sized Grille

2022 will be a very busy year for BMW’s M division with expected reveals including the XM SUV, M3 Touring and possibly even a special edition M4.

Sometime after these reveals, we are likely to see the all-new G87 BMW M2.

The latest spy shots give us our best look yet and for those who cannot stand the massive grille found on the M3 and M4 models, you will be glad to know that it will not be carrying over to the little M member.

I found a pic of it undisguised, you're welcome:

The BMW M2 CS Racing has joined the MotoGP safety car line-up

Race car turned safety car celebrates BMW M’s 50th anniversary

Say hello to the new MotoGP safety car: the BMW M2 CS Racing. Yep, the latest addition to the manufacturer’s safety car fleet is a pure-bred race car turned safety car, as part of BMW M’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

For its upcoming role it wears a special BMW M-themed livery, plus new front lights and roof-mounted lightbar. Shouldn’t be too difficult to spot, then.

Tweaks under the skin are otherwise kept to a minimum, with the M2 CS Racing already sporting a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six producing up to 444bhp, a mechanical limited-slip differential with pre-load and separate cooling, as well as specially manufactured drive shafts and a carbon roof.

“The BMW M2 CS Racing has been successful in a wide range of championships – and, as a thoroughbred race car, is perfectly suited to leading the field as the safety car in the pinnacle of motorcycle racing,” said Frank van Meel, BMW M CEO.

With BMW coming into its 24th season as official safety car partner, the M2 CS Racing will be joined by the M3 and M4 Competition, M5 CS, M8 Competition Gran Coupé, X5 M Competition and two BMW M 1000 RR safety bikes. Quite the collection.

Manhart Performance MH2 630 Takes BMW M2 Competition Up To 621 HP (463 KW)

The all-new BMW M2 will be revealed later this year and promises to be another brilliant ‘baby’ M product but the current F87 M2 Competition is still one superb machine to own and drive.

If the factory output (404 hp; 302 kW) is getting a tad on the low side, the folks over at Manhart Performance can take it to an entirely new level with their MH2 630 offering.

As the title suggests, the M2 Competition is given one serious power boost thanks to the Manhart Turbo Performance Kit and a CSF intercooler resulting in a power output of 621 hp (463 kW) and 750 Nm of torque.

In addition, you will get a stainless steel exhaust system with valve control, downpipes without catalytic
converters and a link pipe with 300-cell GESI catalytic converters.

With such big power gains, the little monster needs to pack better-stopping power so Manhart fitted the six-piston 380 mm brake system from the M4 GT4 up front, while the original brakes have been retained at the rear.

This is what I get with town driving on a full tank. This fillup was 45 liters. I got 240km on this tank, 5.2km/l :eek:
It's totally worth it though. Start the car, immediately put it Sports +, and away you go. The AC Schitnzer pipes burbling away. That exhaust makes this car.

In comfort hit the DSC button for 5 seconds. Should give you more burples. Thats my experience anyhow. Some say it's a placebo, but I clearly hear the difference.

Yes afaik when you hold the DSC button in for 5 seconds you get the most sound from the exhausts. I just like to still have some DSC available to me in Sports + for when I run out of talent when that ass steps out. What's your fuel consumption like more or less the same?

You definitely have to be awake when planting it if DSC is off.

I don't own a M2 anymore. Back then my 3 year old kept wanting to drive with me nonstop and I got tired of the 2 doors getting her in and out into her car seat. I also found the ride to be a tad to bumpy on the roads around me for a daily city cruiser. I then opted in for a 140i which is running a stage 2 MHD tune and aftermarket DPs and MPE. Still nice and soft in comfort but opens up nicely when in sport+. I might opt in for a M2C at some stage again but keep it as a Sunday toy.

Fuel consumption was about the same as yours and what I am getting now on the 140i. They are quite thirsty if you allow some spirited driving. Mind you, I don't even boot it hard.

My 2 boys are exactly the same. They always want to go in the blue car. They love it. And yes the 2 doors are a pita if you have kids.
