The BMW M2 & M2 Competition Thread

Came here to post this in anger. W T A F is that!! When is it going to end? Must be a reason for all these design disasters one after the other, design preference of the Chinese market or something but they are themselves designing nicer looking cars, just doesn't make sense. /barf
That is almost certainly the M Performance exhaust look, not the stock exhaust look but yeah it is an eye sore.

New 2022 BMW M2 leads M's 50th anniversary model onslaught

Performance brand lines up new M2, M3 Touring, fearsome M4 CSL, XM SUV flagship and powerful electric 7 Series

BMW is to launch a wave of new performance models in the 50th anniversary year of its storied M division, among them some of the most powerful combustion-engined models it has yet produced and its first pure-electric sports cars.

As it hits 50 this year, M division is on the cusp of a transformative era that will see it phase out its range of petrol-powered coupés, saloons and SUVs to replace them with high-powered electric alternatives, in line with BMW’s pledge to ramp up EV production.

From 2025, the firm will usher in its third-generation EVs atop the all-new Neue Klasse platform, which will be entirely scalable for deployment in cars equivalent in size to both the 2 Series and X7. Capable also of hosting PHEV powertrains and hydrogen fuel cell systems, it will replace the FAAR and CLAR structure in use across BMW’s line-up, but not before those architectures have hosted an array of sporting models from M division.

Last year, M sold more than 160,000 cars to become the world’s best-selling performance sub-brand. Here’s what they’ve got in the works.

G87 M2 spied with quad stacked centre exhausts

As far as driver’s cars go, the BMW M2 really is right up there as one of the best of the best.

Sure, it was heavy, and the initial iteration may not have had a ‘real’ BMW M powertrain, but it made the right noises, drove the right way and if one was brave enough to option three pedals and a manual gearbox, was engaging and analogue in the right amounts.

Naturally, then, we’re all chomping at the bit for the second-generation BMW M2, the G87. Spy shots have been doing their rounds on the internet and recently, an Instagrammer spotted BMW’s latest baby M-car wearing some snazzy garnish such as a boot spoiler and stacked quad-exit centre exhaust tips. This isn’t a new look for a performance ‘Beemer’ – we saw these novel looking tailpipes for the first time in September 2020 on the bigger BMW M4 Coupé. It is very likely that these are M Performance parts for the forthcoming BMW M2, which will almost certainly be unveiled this year to celebrate half a century of BMW’s M Division.

WATCH: 2023 BMW M2 takes to the Nürburgring along with M4 CSL

It seems to be the testing season in Europe, with warmer weather and more favourable track conditions we can understand why. BMW have been the latest to take one of their high performance models to the Nürburgring after the 2023 BMW M2 was spotted along with the M4 CSL.

Both models were fairly well concealed beneath a layer of camouflage so we don’t have a conclusive understanding of exterior aesthetics however we know that both models are nearing the end of their development stages so the overall form we are seeing here shouldn’t change all that much.

They weren’t the only to take to the busy Nürburgring track since this session was filmed during an Industry Pool which means we see some Porsche and Mercedes-Benz sharing the infamous tarmac with the Bavarian coupes. Neither of them seem to mind this since there aren’t too many cars that attended on the day that were able to match the performance from BMW.

BMW M teases the 2023 M2 with camouflaged close-ups

We’ve seen more spy shots of the 2023 BMW M2 pop up onto our feeds than any other M car of late shrouded in the visually obtrusive camouflage. BMW M posted a few teaser images on Instagram, which didn’t give us the M2 without its camp uniform, but we were able to get a closer look at the side profile of the car, as well as the rear haunches.

For the longest time, we’ve been coming across photos showcasing the new quad exhaust centred at the rear of the upcoming M2, the M240i-esque front and rear facia, and so on. As long as BMW M doesn’t throw another curveball, M fans should make it to the fabled unveiling without ripping out every single strand of hair on their heads.

The car showcased on Instagram displayed a model outfitted with a set of multi-spoke wheels with the famed Hofmeister kink nearly in-line with the centre of the wheel. Aside from that is the rear spoiler that may or may not be an extra option for the Competition trim. On the interior, we’ve seen sneaky shots showcasing a large dual-screen display which suggests iDrive 8. Other than that, not much else seems that different to the M240i’s interior, although a good guess would be that a smattering of M-badges, as well as some M-specific seats will likely make an appearance.

BMW Teases Upcoming M2 With A Grainy Trailer That Barely Shows the Car

The new BMW M2 is "coming soon," presumably without quite so many compression artifacts.

The BMW 2 series was updated last year, but so far we haven’t seen a full-bore M variant of the new compact coupe. Rumors have swirled about what form it may take, but BMW has been loathe to confirm anything on the topic — until today, that is. With a 35-second clip on YouTube, the company confirmed that the true ultimate driving machine is coming back — and soon.

The teaser, posted by BMW M’s YouTube channel, doesn’t show much of the car itself. There are grainy shots of roads, grainy shots of people, and even grainy shots of the M2 logo, but only 24 short frames of a motor vehicle. They don’t show much, but what we can see is definitely interesting.

All we see of the exterior are the car’s daytime running lights, the only points of illumination on an otherwise dark screen. Their shape eschews the traditional BMW double-element design for something more modern — and more generic. To me, they look straight off the C8 Corvette; our esteemed supreme overlord Bob Sorokanich felt they had more of a Tesla vibe. Vote in the comments on who’s right, or what car they bring to your mind.

New BMW M2 Teased, Reveal Imminent

BMW has dropped a short teaser video for the new forthcoming M2 which is expected to be revealed soon.

It’s a big year for BMW as the firm’s M division is celebrating 50 years of existence and we have already been graced with the reveal of the 405 kW M4 CSL, the fastest M car to date, as well as the M4 50 Jahre Edition of which only 5 will be offered locally.

BMW, however, is just gathering momentum and M fans have lots to look forward to because the reveal of the next-generation rear-wheel-drive M2 is around the corner and BMW’s latest teaser entitled, “The M2 is on its way. Get ready for playtime” is a subtle reminder of this fact.

The outgoing M2 was widely regarded as the pinnacle driver’s car and for many, one of the best M cars ever made. Those are lofty praises and it means that the next M2 must exceed expectations.

We’ve previously seen spy shots of the new M2 performance coupe and they suggest that BMW will dial up the fun factor in just about every way possible.

WATCH: BMW teases latest M2 in sultry video ahead of launch

It has been a busy month for BMW’s M Division. Not only are they celebrating 50 years in the game but the iconic CSL nameplate was revived for the potent M4. That hasn’t stopped them from sharing the latest M2 in a sultry teaser video ahead of its unconfirmed debut.

This teaser showcases their compact sports coupe which can be argued as the definitive BMW sportscar; small, nimble and powerful. The latest M2 may not feature in clear view for more than a frame at a time but the Bavarian automaker have made a statement about their new model and by the looks of things, “get ready for playtime” means that it should be joining us soon.

Although not too soon, we can speculate that the brand will want the excitement of the M4 CSL to subside before releasing another fan-favourite and performance crazed model. No official launch date has been given although production will begin towards the end of the year at the San Luis Potosi factory in Mexico. To meet the demand, BMW is hiring an additional 800 employees to start a second production shift at the location.

New BMW M2 May Get xDrive Version

As we type this article, we know the future BMW M2 will launch with power being sent to the rear wheels only but a newly leaked document suggests we could see an all-wheel-drive version in the future.

According to a post on Bimmerpost a leaked BMW technical document suggests the new baby M will receive an xDrive variant at some stage. The xDrive system will be identical to the one used in the M3 and M4 Coupe xDrive and according to the description promises “outstanding traction” and “further improved driving dynamics.”

The document goes on to state that the G87 M2 will offer five different driving modes just like its bigger brother. BMW says the vehicle “behaves predictably” under all conditions, even with a sporty driving style.

M2 teased on social media with M parts a month ahead of launch

Teasers upon teasers is the game plan BMW has been administering to the automotive world for their upcoming performance-crazed M2 coupe. Ahead of its rumoured debut on the 12th of October, here is another image of the widebody model adorned in camouflage and some M parts.

The tiresome teaser campaign has been underway for months now. We have seen the M2 on track, wearing striking livery and we have seen it undergoing testing, with a less extravagant but equally concealing camouflage. This time around, the model has been wearing the latter and from what we can fathom, the production model which is due in less than a month is unlikely to change the bits and pieces bolted onto the widened 2 Series.

My OG LBB M2 went in for a service today. 25k km. So one of the salesmen calls me asking if I would be interested in one of the 2 x M2 Comp they have on the floor. I say sure work out the details. I am not planning on selling mine was just curious as to what kind of a deal they would offer me.

The offer was R740k for mine and 1 bar price on the 2019 model. Not interested, and mine sounds sublime with the AC Schnitzer exhaust compared to the Comp.

Just some useless info for the day.
