The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

How is it possible that I struggle to lift more then 12Kg dumbells per arm and weigh 71kg? and you weigh 62kg and can lift 20kg per arm?
I dunno dude. I still consider myself kinda weak. One should aim to be benching one's body weight, though check Strength Standards or similar to be sure. Power to mass ratio is supposed to favour the smaller dudes so I'm probably expected to have a better power to mass ratio than a larger person.

All I can say is work at it but in such a way that you keep everything in balance, else you're asking for injury. It may be that your scoliosis is a major factor in holding you back. If so, work around it, look for alternatives. Genetically you may never be a muscle bound monster, or perhaps if you are really determined you can make it happen. Hard for strangers on a forum to help you without a lot of info on you :)

So, I'm injured now and I can't do any pushing motions. The dip machine felt OK, so I;m gonna see if I can work on dips then and progress to no assistance. Deadlift and pullups are other areas I want to work on. Sucks but that;s how it is. I;m also not a spring chicken any longer at 39 and with other responsibilities, I can't spend all my time in the gym. Will just try to stay in shape and maintain my health. I'm the same weight I was in matric, 20 years ago but I'd say with more muscle and less fat. Most of my life I was skinny fat I'd say.

World?

At the moment I'm comfortable doing 70kg deadlifts for five reps, but only deadlifting every few weeks if i average across the last three months. I've gone up to 105kg as a one rep max when i was more regular two years ago.

So you are 39 years old, and weigh 62kg. how tall are you? maybe you are shorter then me.
What supplements do you use?
Are you married? have any kids?

15kg isn't too bad for your weight. Is that for pressing though? Push exercises should be higher than pull exercises.

pressing. and I can only do like 8 reps per set before I colapse

How long does a specific muscle have to wait before you exercise it, without it breaking down. for instance if i exercises my chest once a week. will it increase or will it grow then break down because I waited to long?

1,67m tall, 62kg, bf% between 16 - 18%. I'll take a whey protein shake after a workout with a teaspoon of l-glutamine. As I said, I'm not working out enough to warrant eating a lot. I find that as my activity levels increase so does my appetite ramp up, so basic rule of thumb is I eat when I'm hungry. So i'll eat a few times per day, even before I go to sleep. I;m really eating everything now, maybe too much carbs. Bread most days and crackers and stuff before bed time. Going to try to eat healthier.

Not married, no kids that I know of...

It varies depending on the muscle. For me, working on chest I'd say I should hit chest every 3 or 4 days. Something like abs recovers quicker and some say you can hit them everyday, though for me I'd go with every 2 days at most. I'd say listen to your body but don't be a big wimp :p If you're younger you will recover quicker, generally speaking, than an older person (i.e. me :p).

Ah I see okay so you are a bit shorter, which explains the weight class but you are probably stawnge. Cool. I try to exercise as soon as the post exercise pain subsides. but cool, why did you never get married?

The answer to your last question is a bit off topic and kind of long. But basically I haven't met someone suitable yet. The last two i was involved with both were a bit messed up; one was psycho and the other was spoilt rotten by her parents. One was 40 and the other was 27.

On the plus side I can pass for ten years younger than I am.

I am 25
Height - 1,74m
Weight - 70Kg

Kit Harington is 28
Height - 1,73
Weight - 77kg

I want to be ripped like him. this is pretty much the body type I want.
Come on MyBB give me a decent workout plan to look like this.

Well Kit is hardly "ripped" and certainly not the look I am aiming for.

But my advice to you will be:

1. Diet.

You will never get/look ripped if you don't lose enough body fat to expose the muscles and show definition.

2. And then just stick to big compound movements. SL 5x5 will be perfect.

Thanks Apoc,

I don't want to be ripped though. just look healthy. And his body type is fine for me, maybe a bit more refined.

Could you explain that last part please:

Compound movements are exercises that incorporate more than one joint and/or muscle group.

Like squats, deadlifts, bench press, military press and rows.

Google Stronglifts 5x5.

It is an awesome and easy beginners program to build muscle and get strong.

Add some cardio and a good diet and you will be well on your way to getting and looking healthy.

Went to throw some iron around this morning, first time in 3 months, I almost died - possibly a mild heart attack... (not really but damn sure felt like it). At least I can start eating proper again.

Nice one :-)

We should form a culture in this forum and talk to each other like one of those beef cakes you get in the gym.
use the word boet or bru before each sentence.

"Ah my boet, I went and lifted this morning hey, saw this hot betty with a tight ass, would like to do some squats over her if you know what I mean bru!"

Lol, now that you mention it there were just jocks and their blonde supporters everywhere!
Either something has gone horribly wrong or I'm just used to the 8pm session (mostly just the long time builders)...

Question - hanging leg raises (straight leg)

I think I'm doing it right - raise legs fast, then lower them slow. But for the life of me I cant keep my middle stationary so between each rep I touch the floor with my toes to stop rocking so that the rocking is not aiding me. Now how important is it to not move my middle at all during a rep? Should I perhaps go down a notch, back to forearm leg raises or perhaps bent leg hanging? Or do I keep going as is?
