The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

Dude when I started I weighed 59kg. I'm currently on 93kg.

Just keep at it, and always remember to eat. I try to hork down at least 4,000 calories a day, with at least 220g of protein.

The rest will come a lot more easily if your diet is in check.

That's amazing lol. I'm very short though but I still have long arms so I'm at this weird spot where I don't get the benefits of being short making me look stocky and powerliftery but still not that 5'10" aesthetic god mode.

I bulked at 3000 calories last time (adjusted for weight gain at the end) but I stopped lifting before I went far over that.

It's 2: 00 am and I cant sleep so im rambling lol

I lost a lot of strength on my flat bench.
DB Incline seems okay

this is relevant because those two are my favorite exercises.

I was benching 95x5 and Inclining DB's at 32.5x8 before. (actually I may have done 35's at some point but I can't remember)
Today I did 50x7-8 and 15x10

Wrist held up well on pushing exercises, not so much on dips and tricep pulldowns.

That and I've forgotten how much of a mission it is to eat 3000 calories :(

I'm easing back into things and in no hurry because I don't want that shoulder issue coming back.

I'm on 14kg dumbbells for flat press (neutral grip), about 5 sets, starting on 12 reps and down to about 8 as i fatigue. Just trying to get some muscle back and I'll be happy. Don't have time to live in the gym and eat eat eat...

I'm on 62.5kg bodyweight, so less than half a Thor :/

62.5kg?!

Not going to judge you, though - my lowest was 61kg. Was 70kg when I started lifting, highest was 87kg, and now that I've stopped lifting, am at a steady 83kg. Feels a bit weird having excess bodyweight, knowing what it feels like to be a stick.

I NEED to get my shoulder impingement sorted out so I can start training again - it's affecting my quality of life. But would prefer to sort it out with physio. Read that after surgery it's never the same and affects your lifting.

^ Yep, well I'm only 1.67m tall/short. Same weight I was in matric, 23 years ago. I have a bit more muscle now and less fat, i was skinny fat in school. Shoulder impingement, yeah I have that too.

My heaviest weight was 68kg like 8 years ago but that was from eating too much canteen food, not from working out :/

You said you don't want your shoulder issue coming back - how did you get rid of it?

Haha, you and me both. Yussis, I also aim for 3000, but a consistent clean 3000 was the hardest part for me....keeping it up, every day, for months. I found myself never hungry, force feeding myself, especially breakfast where I am NEVER hungry, and I have to force down 100g oats and 4eggs or something.

So this morning was my first morning work out. I woke up at 7AM, was working out by 7:15AM. I had some other household chores to do, namely cooking, which I did in between sets. Left the house by 9AM and was at work by 9:30AM.

I think I'll stick with this routine. It works for me because I feel like I have more energy in the mornings. I think I got a better sleep. I felt more rested than I usually do. I have read that evening training is more effective for building muscle, but I think even knowing that, I prefer morning training, because of the better sleep.

I also think I'll be more consistent with exercising.

Now and then I will come to work early so I can leave early. But most of the time, I'll come to work later. It makes so much more sense, especially if you can do your cooking in bulk.

Another thing I need to look at is my diet. I think I need to eat more protein. If I had to guess, I'm probably at about 100g to 120g most days. I think this should be 160g. I might start eating like 6 eggs per day or something. I could add another protein shake but I think it would be better for me to get more variety in my diet.

Going to get expensive though!

While we are ITT.
I wanted to ask.

Protein absorption vs protein utilization

The 'we can only absorb x amount of protein per meal' has been debunked, but does that mean the protein is actually being utilized?
What if we absorb 50 grams of protein in a sitting but only 30 of that is being utilized. Does the 20 go to waste?

I'm a bit rusty, you see.

If you take in excess protein that is not used by the body, it will be converted back to Glucose for energy, or if the body doesn't need the energy then it will store it as fat. Protein is not like carbohydrate where it will float around your system for a while to see if it is required and then only converted. the amino acids will be basically utilized straight away and if not required then converted.

It is best to have smaller portions of proteins throughout the whole day rather than in one sitting (as has been mentioned before)

Interestingly, some people say that you should do squats every day. I mean, every workout day. Monday, Wednesday and Friday for example.
