Your numbers are fine, actually good for one month. Eat proper, sleep proper and strength will come. Are you squatting with free weights? You can always use the smith machine to get your form right.
:)

When I saw your photo on page 273, I kinda thought you almost where I am in terms of bodycomp ect, except I think I now have more fat, mostly because I am bulking and don't care too much about it for now.

Omw your starting stats are almost identical to mine!
I sat on 55kg bench forever before I knew what I was doing and my OHP was the same range as yours.
Albeit I am shorter than you, weight is almost also the same :D 1.68m short

I'm shorter bud, 1.66 ^_^

Managed 3 x 5 35kg OHP yesterday (45 with the bar)
whoop whoop

I'm interested to see that pic you posted - please upload directly to thread - my work blocks external imaging sites

What pre-workout supps do you guys take? At my age it helps to have a nitrous boost of sorts and I've found USN's Anabolic Nitro-X works pretty well for me. That said, I'm not happy with it because I'm trying to avoid caffeine. Too many of these 'energy' type supps are mostly caffeine. Does anyone know of a product that gives a good nitrous pump without the caffeine?

Pre-workout hmmm.

You should only be looking at one of three;

Muscle Pharm Assult
Purus Labs Condense
Cellucore C4

None of the above contains DMMA (1,3 dimethylamylamine) - like Jack3D etc. And these things give you a BOOST. All three the above will give you insane focus, massive pump and enough juice to hit hard.

And I know some people will disagree on my disregard of DMMA but, even if you are healthy (no heart arrhythmia or palpitations etc) the substance is a vasoconstricter! It clamps down the left ventrical of the heart...not good no matter how you slice it.

Thanks Orihalcon... so does the stuff I use have it? I'm going to google. Do those three have caffeine?

At 40 I don't need anything messing with my veins. Thanks again!

Are pre-workout supps really that important? I get hyped from the idea of lifting heavier - I bought creatine and its just sitting - I know this isn't preworkout - I just think one should be as natural as possible

Decided all I need is a multivitamin and whey protein ^_^

I guess maybe if you're trying to break plateus.....

I definetly feel the benefits of a pre-workout, just the focus side, I'm not really interested in "pumps", etc.

Don't think I am going to use it - bought the SSN Monohydrate - I just found myself thinking .... why? Apparently it increases rate of muscle recovery/growth... buut I just wasn't sure whether the effort (carbo loading, cycling blah blah) was worth it.

I'll just eat healhy and lift heavy

Creatine is probably the most researched supplement on the planet in the history of supplements and PROVEN effective.

It increases the ATP in your muscles - basic explanation. Also the whole notion of "loading" your creatine with 20g dose for 5 days and then maintenance have been debunked along with the idea of cycling creatine. You can take it contineously.

What creatine will do is have your muscles be able to store more energy (along with water) - this where extra water weight comes in - and it will and does let you lift more at heavier weight - looking at a 10%-15% increase. Is it a needed sup? No. Is it a damn good one. Yes.

As for pre-workouts I don't feel they should be taken daily...as with anything your body adapts - though this is more so for ones containing DMAA where people report the sup losing effectiveness. However using one on days you feel a bit bummed or lackluster before a big workout (legs / back) then it can definitely help.

All three I mentioned DO contain various amounts of caffeine - purus Labs being the one containing the most straight up caffein. I would recommend Assault to anyone - the "high" is not as pronounced and it contained a complete amino profile and the boost lasts damn long. Great product and highly underrated in this country due to lack of local marketing.

So w.r.t. creatine, do u guys think it necessary to take with dextrose or something like grape juice?

Any brands u guys would advocate? I recall Inn3rs3lf saying Creapure is the purest brand one can buy in post#3314.

I see 3 posts before that xrapidx advocated creatine mono.
@xrapidx, do you split your 20g per day into 5g doses? Dose based on body weight I see u said.

Depends on where you read - I calculated it on body weight, and actually take 20g a day, the crap is dirt cheap, and if I pee it out due to excess, I'm not too worried. I'm not to worried about it damaging my body as I already drink a crap load of water.

4 weeks on, 4 weeks off.
<snip>

Nah, not necessary to take creatine with something that spikes your insulin.

If it's in your body, your body will use it.

Correct. You also don't have to take creatine pre-workout or post workout. You can take it anytime in the day. Again - a LOT of bro science has been debunked on creatine. 5g-10g a day. You sorted.

As for brand...hell there are a lot. Forget about the creatine Ester/Ethyl or watcha-ma-callits. All hype and the selling point is quicker absorbtion..marketing gimmick. Stick to creatine monohydrate. Also the new "buzz word" is micronized creatine...don't pay it any attention.

Pro-10 has 1kg of creatine for R200 at Dischem. Or you can buy any reputable brand of creatine really...

I personally order from BasicSupplements.co.za R75 for 500g. They got a damn good price on Protein Isolate as well.

I'm not using creatine at all right now...but from everything I've read you don't need to cycle it. It does not target a specific receptor that can become numb and the effectiveness drop. If the stuff is in your system and your body needs it your body will use it.

Guys that lift heavy 5 days a week use creatine permanently. Too cycle or not too cycle...personaly choice. No scientific backing to support one over the over.

EDIT: Three recent articles on creatine (all 2012). All three are great. Read em.

+1 on those comments.

Creatine is not an essential nutrient, as it is manufactured in the human body from L-arginine, glycine, and L-methionine.[5]
3 aminos go into Creatine... and the benefits are more than just energy for building... brain functions included.

Ok so I'll take my creatine

Good boy! :D

On another note - those usgin Milk in their diets, something that I was reminded of since incorporating a litre a day in mine... don't forget to have something else afterwards that clears your throat a bit - even water (but preferably something a bit rougher - an apple for example)... and rinse properly... there's nothing like milk coating your throat to bring on the strep throat. No jokes.

I'm having a weird issue - I've always been a light sleeper (Never slept a night through in my life)

But recently been dreaming constantly - waking up 4 times a night on average-

On day 23 of not smoking and on day 23 SS. Not sure which to blame it on
