thanks for the replies guys. my diet and workouts are pretty solid, before the festive season i was losing about 500g per week, and went down from 83 -> 80, also surprisingly while still marginally increasing my lifts. I was just asking because I want to be ~78kg end of January. It was my goal last year but the holidays and all the beer kinda spoiled that for me =PP

damn, my legs this morning:

Sorry if this has been asked already but this thread is so darn long I ain't gonna read through everything :p

I want to build muscle, so currently I'm doing about 8 - 10 sets of various exercises using my dumbbells with about 6 - 8 reps in a set according to uncle google. My question though, is it better to do all the sets one after the other with a minute break in between? Or is it better to alternate, say do 4 sets of one muscle group and then 4 of something else then go back to the first group etc?

Thanks

Do you gym from home?

The issue in gymming from home is that we don't have the weight range to work with, I have to make my own dumbbells before I use them and its a task really.
So I instead adopt techniques like dropsets, rest-pause, intraset isometrics, high volume training amongst others.
I have seen decent results from the above so it suits my routine and time schedule, i only have 40min every evening.

I'll vary my sets and reps constantly every workout is different, my 5c is as long as you stimulate the targets muscles and they are exhausted at the end then your work is done.

worked for me, you just have to find what works for you.

Yea I'm gymming from home, I miss the ease of switching different weight so quickly when at the gym however I don't have the budget for gym membership :)

Did my workout last night while only doing a few sets then alternating, then going back etc. but I'm gonna try your routine tomorrow and see how it goes. Thanks

So does anyone gym at the Sports Science Institute in Newlands? How crowded does it get at peak times and is their free weight section decent, with enough room?

Also, are there any issues with damaged equipment not being replaced or repaired quickly?

They are very expensive, they don't hire personal trainers, only Biokineticists

If you are on Discovery Vitality then it is R255 a month. Not bad at all considering it's one of the best places you could find to train.

R255 a month is nothing.

That's basically what I prepaid for 6 months at my local backwater establishment.

I do have the loveliest view from the array of orbital cross-trainers, treadmills and stationary bikes (through some huge windows across a huge plain that stretches out over 15kms) that any gym owner would pay dearly to have.

My gym is situated on the edge of town, with nothing else across the street, looking out through the windows.

Doms sucks!

Being away for 3 weeks from "gym"
Then hitting chest hard and you are full of energy, still sore from monday.
Yesterday was back and i'm feeling it now :(

Today is supposed to be squats  I'm scared

I'm also struggling a bit - after 2 weeks off - this first week back at gym has been a bit tough.

I'm doing ok - almost a month off, stiff from legs, struggling to stand/sit/****.

Did bench today, thought I was going to take it light, up to 90kg, but it felt so light, stopped at 15 reps - seems the added weight gain came with added strength, will go full steam next week again.

You can do 90x15+

Yoh :D

At my best I did 90x5 feels like I'm lightyears away

First leg in 2months.

6x sets of 8 reps - deep squats
2x sets of 8 reps - sissy squats

Oozed out of bed this morning, now I can't move from my chair at work. :o

I know this feeling, last week was the first time I did legs since Oct 2013 (hurt my big toe and couldn't walk properly)

I did legs on tuesday and they are still sore today.

edit: also weighted myself last night : 81.25. So that's a 1.25kg loss in 7 days, keeping this up I should get 3-4kg by the end of Jan =)
