The swelling sounds bad. I have creaky knees. Was bugging me last squatting session. Have to keep things light until i get back into the swing of 5x5 squats.

So, I decided now is a good time to start lifting some weights because I'm sick of hurting myself doing things I wouldn't think you've about doing not so long ago. Went along to this new Viva gym to check if they had everything I needed for 5x5 and there was just muscles everywhere. I'm going to feel like a tit squatting an empty bar.![]()

The boy from Jerry Macguire and Stuart Little.
I had to take a second look to believe it.

Any of you familiar with Frank Medrano? This guy is insane.

Well you have to do some form of warmup. Even if you do 100Kg sets, you will still warm up. Probably at least 1 set of just the bar, test form, get the the blood flowing. Then a heavier warmup set, with probably 40-60Kg before you jump in and do 100Kg sets. At least if Squats is your very first exercise, that is what you should do.
How else do people warm up? I like just doing empty bar, heavier set, then get to my working sets. Otherwise if I do cardio or something silly, then when I get to the squat rack its taken and muscles cool down again.
Voice, how many reps and sets did you do? Just the bar, right?
2x3 no bar to stretch out/warm up, then 5x5 with the Olympic bar (20kg). All the way down (hips past knees) for each rep. Was supposed to go again yesterday for Workout B (squat, overhead and deads) but I could barely get out of the car without leverage - didn't want to take the risk of lifting without being able to stabilise myself properly. My quads wouldn't have allowed it, anyway.
So I've changed my schedule from Mon-Wed-Fri to Tue-Thu-Sat to compensate for the day lost. Partly also because I had to wait over 20mins to use a bench (there are 3 at my gym) because of guys just standing there talking **** about their weekends for ages between sets - less likely to happen on a Tuesday, I reckon.
