I prefer regular deadlifts but I do alternate grip for both unless I'm using straps, which I always do when I go heavy.

Guess that would be the only way when going over 120kg. Overhand just cannot keep hold. RDLs will be a staple on my leg days from now on again. Normal deads still on back days.

Did the first day of the SL 5x5 today.

My glutes have been replaced by jello :erm:

Shot dot :) Will be starting tomorrow.

Thanks, it's good to hear. I suffer from back issues occasionally, nothing hectic but I'm sure this will help.

Do SS+GOMAD and skateboard squats for your back.

You gotta eat big to get big!

In non-bodybuilder-ese? :p

I don't want to get big, I want to use weight training to aid fat loss.

SS is starting strenght which is legitimate advice to help you with form and a good program to start with, the GOMAD part is more of a joke on /fit/ and the skateboard squats is also a joke, soz if you lurk on /fit/ long enough you tend to think like an autist

Interesting article about the bench press for those interested:

http://www.t-nation.com/training/6-heavy-bench-press-lessons

The 6 points summed up are:
1. Raw bench press strength is highly correlated with shoulder size and strength.
2. The bench press is the lift most affected by weight loss.
3. Use the reverse-band bench press when you have sore shoulders.
4. Band work between sets works.
5. Consider using a suicide grip when bench pressing to eliminate shoulder or triceps pain.
6. Never miss a rep.

I agree with all those.

Specially power loss when weight goes down. Have shed 7kg since start of this year...and my bench has suffered.

Good list!

Thanks for this! I've been neglecting shoulders and not eating or sleeping right and am weak as hell now. Time to revisit SL 5x5!

****ed up my back yesterday with a light 120kg squat.

Left my water bottle on the catches, as I was coming down the one side of the bar caught the water bottle, lost balance, regained balance, but heard my back crack... so %$#$%$ sore now. Took three cataflam and two myprodol last night to knock myself out.

**** only came right a month ago after hurting it last year

Man that sucks, in all honesty (not trolling or anything) you could actually try doing skateboard squats while your back recovers.

Damnit dude...really sorry to hear that. Went through the same thing last year with one bad lift on a squat when I got tired; dropped my chest as I was coming up and rounded my back...click and crack. SUCKED.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that, hope you recover fast!

On another note, I always get a bit depressed and feel like a weak p#@sy when I read these lines: "with a light 120kg squat" :(

I'm only on 45kg squats :p Hoping 12-16 weeks from now I'll be at 120. No idea if thats possible, but I'll see where I end up
