+1

I have trained and trained with some noticeably physically smaller guys who was like little nuclear reactors.

This! I put it down to shorter reps and general physics. Us tall blokes have to work much harder in the gym - at least that's what I've told myself :p

Smaller ( shorter ) people build muscle alot quicker amd easier than tall people thats a fact. Thanks gravity and awkward angles

Regarding bench press form, if you don't do it right then it becomes a glorified triceps & shoulder exercise right? What then happens, does one then get massive arms from this poor form?
Well that is debatable. At best it becomes a bad shoulder and tricep exercise, mostly bad only because you will hurt yourself more than it does you good. At least that is my opinion.

That said, it doesn't take much to pull your shoulders back whilst bench pressing. Neither does it take much to tuck your elbows in. You will need a few practice sessions at slightly lower weight to get used to the correct form.

No - because they can't lift the same weight with just your arms/shoulders - you'll probably just end up overtraining /opening yourself up to injury.

Tried that on bench last night, and it felt weird. But right? Will take some getting used to. Felt less strain on my shoulders. Always try pinch my shoulder blades together as close possible - makes it easier to get the bar all the way down to my chest.

Whoa!
The blood glucose monitor was around R350 (Discovery paid) and the BP monitor was more - let me find them quick and send pics of what we have. They did have a special on with it though (I think I got that from Clicks).

Update: I paid R900 for it (Tensoval Duo Control) in 2013. There was a special on where discovery members could get R300 discount or something I think. Either way it was worth it IMO. It has 3 year warranty.

Just a warning, check the band size - the one above is a medium, you might want to go for large - it's a very tight fit on me.

Thanks. I'll have the wife check out what Clicks has to offer as well. She went to Dischem during her lunch but was in a bit of a rush so only saw ones for around R1800.

Got it, will try to get into the habit of doing this.

This type of purchase might qualify for 25% cash back under Vitality's HealthyCare list. Check it if this might apply to you.

Remember that you have to take it to the prescription counter to check whether Discovery will pay - they do the discounting etc. there and if there's anything to pay in, you just to that at the checkout counter.

I am not on Vitality. When I signed up for Discovery the benefits vs cost thing for my scenarios made me decide against it

Thanks I will tell her. Or perhaps I should just go myself after work today. The Clicks close to home stays open a bit later if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure my Plan will cover it. I'm on the Classic Saver. Not sure if it is still called that.

I think that's what I'm on too.
They definitely paid for my blood test machines and strips. Let us know how that goes.

OK, but even if you are not on Vitality, Discovery has a once a year screening benefit which should apply to you. So you can get BP, glucose, etc... checked out at their cost under the aforementioned screening benefit.

Might as well do that as well as getting your own device for BP.

I'd like to get a more comprehensive screening once in a while. I wonder if you can just arrive at the path lab and ask for a blood profile...? Any docs in here with some recommendations of good profiles to ask for? I know some are way more expensive than others. One that interests me is Toxoplasmosis... I'd love to know how many South Africans carry that one.

Toxoplasmosis, that's the one that improves the performance of one's national soccer team :D

I don't think Bafana Bafana players are infected though :p

That is soon. Not to be unexpected though as its a special and not so soon that one can't use it up. Manufactured date is probably 1 to 2 years ago?

What is the fitness fibre for?

To keep you regular, I have no idea actually

I use 2kgs of way in about 4/6 weeks, so it's fine for me

Surely Nutritech is not the best value for money Whey since their prices went up to R699 for the 3.2kg, is it?

I see Supplements SA Whey is R595 for 3kg at www.supplementworld.co.za/ and they do free shipping on order above R200.

Anybody order from them on a regular basis?
