So whats your guys opinion on young kids at gym?

I see kids (8-13) training and doing sets with their brothers/dad.

I always thought that you should wait till you >14 to start muscle training as not to **** up your body.

I'm sure as long as they aren't going overboard with the weight it shouldn't be an issue.

Like little Hercules.

and what he looks like now. Stopped lifting all together.

I'd say being so ripped at a young age was detrimental to his development. When you're a growing child the last thing you want is to have no fat reserves, unless you're being meticulous about ensuring once you're there that you have a surplus calories to grow.

Agreed, that's really excessive for a child that young. If the pictures are true?

A form of child abuse IMO if you do that to your child and really stupid as you're likely to stunt the child's development.

Serious question because I don't know.

But don't stretch marks mainly happen when weight loss or gain is extreme? Losing weight too fast (probably unhealthy) and gaining muscle mass extremely fast (steroids).

If it happens over time the skin will gradually adjust without stretch marks, won't it?

I have stretch marks on my thighs and shoulders. Not major but they are there. Weren't there when I started lifting in December. I'm natural but have gained quite a bit of muscle.

Meh, i started lifting again recently (Feb) and noticed stretch marks where arms meet pecs. Havent put on much mass(mostly some belly loss) so chalking it up to my exceptionally dry skin....

Went back to the gym after 3mths out yesterday. 5x5 all over again. DOMS is already setting in, and have to go back tomorrow for day 2. Any tips? Feeling it mostly in my legs, so thinking a 10min cycle should get the blood flowing again

That could work - but I'd do a slow 10 minute cycle - or 10 minutes of walking.

Also some stretching after warming up would probably help.

Do you guys prefer dumbbell or barbell bench press? And can you press the same weight on both?

Like I said. I don't know and is the reason I asked.

I'm not accusing anybody of steroids use or unhealthy fat loss.

As pointed out there are obviously rare cases where it just happens and it differs with each person.

The more I learn the better.

I do barbell and dumbbell too.

Always start out with barbell and my last exercise on chest days are incline dumbbell. By that time my muscles (especially triceps) are so exhausted that I can only lift about half of what I did with barbell.

I know you not accusing anybody :)

Just adding in my situation to help the learning. Also trying to get rid of them and avoid more. Been moisturizing better lately. Hope it helps.....

I prefer barbell BP, but still do dumbell press after. Definitely heavier with barbell.

+1

Also slightly less stable with dumbbells even at moderate weights.... A sort of tremble. Hope it gets better with time

Did some dumbbell presses last night - first time in a long time - felt really good.

Think I'm going to try work them into all my chest workouts from now on - will also do them at the end of the workout - lifting without a spotter and failing with dumbbells will be a lot more pleasant than failing with a barbell.

But then you have two heavy objects hurtling at your face
:D
