Looking at those two pictures I've got very good news for you. You are already a member of the 500kg club. There's no need to squat that deep. Powerlifters get measured on below-parallel squats, for instance. Nobody keeps track of ass to the floor squats. Below parallel squats are fine. The trouble comes in with stupid people that bend their knees 10 degrees before standing back up and then claiming that they've squatted the weight.

I've seen guy loading 240kg at VA and doing the 10 degrees thing... they're in the same category as the guys who do 40kg barbel curls in the squat rack.

I prefer going that deep as it doesn't hurt my knees as much - thats the squat I was talking about where its impossible for your knees not to go past your toes at that depth.... somewhere between "just below parallel" and "that deep" my knees cross over my toes by about 4cm... BUT - it doesn't cause any discomfort in my knees, coming to a halt at just below parallel does.

I've actually asked my other half to sneak in cellphone next week and take a video of both my squats and deadlifts, deadlifts just so I can make 100% my back is straight, she says it is, but I want to be sure - squats, because I want to see how I come back up... somewhere in my accent I start lifting up and forward, instead of just up.

So does VA not allow you to use a phone to record a video?! I train at a hardcore powerlifting gym so I'm not used to that sort of thing. Anyways, good luck with that 500kg.

I'm not sure... considering they bitched when I walked around with a small bag for knee wraps and chalk - it wouldn't surprise me.

One way to find out...

I'm currently hiding my chalk from them because I'm sure they'll moan about it.

190kg deadlift today, probably would've managed 200kg... but when I tried afterwards I was dead...slow progress, but getting there. Hoping to have it over 300kg next year this time.

This is why I do deadlifts ONLY on one day. I will do two of 265kg (not reps, one rep, then rest, and then another one). Then maybe another set of 8 - 10 of 180, then I stumble to my car and go home.

Which VA is this? I'm at Tygervalley, nobody has ever complained about the chalk (actually I use resin) I used. I bitched a bit once when the cleaner vacuumed the chalk from the floor as I was about to lift.

Yeh - I did six sets before attempting the 190kg :p I was dead when I wanted to try 200kg

Canal Walk - I checked the rules last week- there's nothing on chalk - so I'm happily using mine... There is something on bags though

VA Rules said:
No food, drinks or bags are allowed on the training floor, with the exception of water bottles.

AND

You may not take any photographs or movie shots in any Club (including by use of a camera on a cell phone, PDA, or any other electronic device).

I will tell you something, if they want to stop me from using chalk for deadlifting, I will cancel my debit order and go find another gym. But I also try to not make an excessive mess. Anyway, it's easy to vacuum the chalk from the rubber mats. I've never had an issue in years.

Yeh - I was surprised the difference it made, I was struggling to hold onto 100-120kg with gloves or straps (which I don't like using) - I then bought chalk a month or so ago, and immediately added over 40kg to the lifts... and no more slipping, I can actually keep the grip.

Straps and gloves are for sisses

Need a preworkout meal?

At the moment I take protein shake + creatine mix 1 hr before I gym.
Have heard wonders about oats?
Tried it but it's dry and chewy, dont have a place at work to cook the oats, should I blend them and add to shake?

Just put it in the shake with protein and blend...

e.g
Whey serving
Creatine serving
Oats serving
couple raisins, say 40g.

and blend.

Will give this a bash, chewing on dry oats, I'm not a horse.

Added 2kg to my Clean and Press, tried adding another 200g and almost stuffed up my right wrist, just gave way on the clean.
Would of looked like a real poepol with a broken wrist for my upcoming holiday :)

clean and press is to much effort for me

I'm addicted in a good way...started 3 months back and have managed to add 1kg each week.

Lately have added 2kg a week.
Weigh in at 74kg - 1 rep clean and press at the moment = 70kg.
Tried 71kg yesterday when my wrist gave way.......nearly an oops when the weights hit the floor with clang.
But I'm still a youngin' and have lots to learn, also hard coming back from work each day and then hitting a Gym routine, I put my routine through my head when driving home from work.
But sometimes I look at that weight on the floor and think Eish!

Its why I gym in the morning... but 6pm I'll have a long list of excuses why I shouldnt.

200kg deadlift :)

Anyone else training through December holidays? Did 12 sets of deadlifts this morning - thought I was going to die.
