LOL, it was a joke :D I'm not ripped at all, or even close to it. Never will be, it's not my goal.

haha I know :D. If I was your size I wouldn't have worried about being ripped as well. Just get even bigger the whole time. Sadly I don't have the length

Yeah with my lifestyle it won't happen :o

EDIT: Luckily being ripped like hell and strength has got nothing to do with each other :D

Yeah, I've just decided to try and control my weight while building muscle, screw the weight loss, its just two easy to put it back in a fraction of the time.
Loosing 35kg, I lost
35kg on deads (I pushed hardest here, to minimise the loss)
30kg on bench
90kg on squat (but also had four unfortunate leg injuries this year (thrown into a large cactus by drunk friends, knee kicked out by a drunk friend of a friend I was trying to help, he paid the price, then hurt my hip somehow, and also hurt my other knee running)

I was ecstatic to hit 30kg on my bench press :o

But then again I am a skinny charo :p

OK thanks to Gustav and his link I have calculated my calorie requirements to be 9360. Now to get my meal plan right. Not very easy cos I am vegetarian :( One consolation is I am quite happy eating the same meals every day for a month :p

9360 Kilojoules! ie. 2340 Calories lol.

Over two thousaaaaaand!

Anyways, from 3 pages back:
Hey all.

I've recently decided that I need to get a gym membership. My 2x10KG dumbbells are still fine for small isolation exercises but I've found are pretty useless for my chest, legs etc.

After some digging on the web I've found the two "best" starting programs, Starting Strength and Stronglifts. These seem to provide a pretty good base to start and grow from.

Both of those say you should start with the bar only. I've read SL's free guide thing as well as the SS book and I get that form is very important but squatting less than 50kg's for the first 3 weeks seems a bit meh.

Age: 22
Weight: 80
Height: 1.83
Bf% is about 18

Based on my stats I'll be trying to eat 3000cals a day (currently around 2300 now).

Am I missing anything? Any critique would be helpful thanks

TL;DR: Stronglifts vs. Starting Strength?
SL seems to be easier to follow because there are no "accessory exercises" (I think that's what they called them) like in SS.

I'll just start with the bar and get my form right. Then I won't stall too early as well

When you start with SL (probably SS too), those first few weeks where you start with the bar only, you can focus on form. You will need it. As for Squatting less than 50kg...I also started with that, glad I did, because it will never be that easy again :)

Oh and, I still start with only the bar every time I do squats. My very first warm-up set is always 20kg, regardless of how heavy I can go. It may look silly, but I see it as a requirement to prepare my body for next heavier sets.

As for eating, you can eat more for now, it just become more important as you go heavier later in the program. You will know when you not eating enough, ie. you get stuck with a plateau.

OK not to be funny or anything. But I have no idea if I can keep this up. I have never eaten this much in my life :o And it's only been 2 days :wtf:

Heh. Keep going.

I am reading this one e-book, and it states, if you want to look ripped at x kg body-weight, you need to first bulk up to 20kg over that, then cut down to that weight. For me this will be insane, I used to weigh 54kg, I am now at 75kg, I want to be 80kg when I am in my ripped look (being 1.76m) so that means I need to bulk up to 100kg!! That is insane!!!

Hi guys.
Any advice for a 37 year old male, 1.8m ,65kg. I've been this weight since matric, and would like to gain fast. I have well-defined muscles ,but I'll classify myself as skinny and obviously underweight. Any advice on training and nutrition? I yeah, I do smoke and plan to gym at home with barbells, dumbells and a bench only to my disposal. All input will be appreciated, thanks.

Well, ask someone who used to be skinny how they gained weight? There is only one way, and that is to start eating more, and more, especially when you don't feel hungry. I always thought I was eating a lot, and I am not eating 4 times more than I used to, and I still want to increase it to another 8 times more than I eat now. I used to be 55kg, I am not at 75kg (possibly more, checked more than a week ago last) and I am aiming to go to 90+ kg before I cut back down to 85kg.

I will say this, supplements and training helps nothing if you don't eat enough.
To gain weight, and look good is something like this: 5% training + 66% eating/lifestyle + 29% sleeping = 100% looking good body.
29% sleeping because you spend 8 hours a day to sleep, and you need your sleep to recover and grow.
5% training because you spend and hour a day in the gym, but not every day.
66% eating/lifestyle, because that is the rest of day, in which you should spend enough time eating.

Most people will say it is something like 80% eating 20% training. Eating is that important!

#1 is fix your diet, you really need a healthy dose of protein/fat/carbs in every single meal, at least 4-5 meals a day, at least every 2-3 hours you need to eat. Start small and increase your food intake every week.
#2 supplements dont help unless your diet is fixed
#3 training helps a little, but can't fix a bad diet

I personally still skimp a little on my eating, but it is 100 times better than it used to be, and probably still that much better than other skinny guy's diets.

Well thats the only way to gain fast, not just in my experience, but others as well. I am currently reading the ebooks by Vince Del Monte. He used to be skinny, and he looks super good at the moment, weighing 90kgs (age 32 atm) where he used to be low 60s (age 22) as well. His nickname in school and university was skinny vince, now he works for himself as a fitness professional helping skinny guys gain weight. Most of what I said, is what he will tell you as well, eat more, but eat healthy foods, then worry about supps, and he will have some good gym routines ect as well. Or you can hire him as an online coach I think. Hope this helps to motivate you to eat more :)
