Like Boris begging EU workers to come back to the UK.

After spending months and months before Covid-19 to make it more difficult for EU workers to come to the UK.

Pfeffel has proven himself to be a bigger buffoon than most believed possible, it's the knuckledraggers and morons who still believe he's anything else.

He's always been like that, right from school days

Hahaha, brilliant. And very accurate. I don't think you'll see Chris about here though. Surely he hasn't got the brass neck to defend the absolute clusterfsck that this administration has become.

Funny thing is though, as you know I'm in Scotland just now and today's news is about the massive swing seen in Indyref No to Yes voters recently thanks to these inept cnuts. So, shouldn't complain too much I guess ;)

Looks like Chris his PhD in economics !!

One farmer, who asked not be named, said the new Bill amounted to a ‘kick in the teeth’ for Lincolnshire farmers.

He said: “It is hard enough making a living and what we need is support - not new rules and regulations that will make it even harder.

“I thought leaving the EU was a good thing - like a lot of other people, I voted leave. Now, I think we’d be better off staying put.”

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The only silver lining around is the fact the whole world is basically going into a bad recession from Covid-19 which will cushion the effects of a no deal exit.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The Coronavirus pandemic shone the brightest light on the Brexit lies.

Off the top of my head, some of the big lies and myths that were exposed pretty quickly were -

- No control of their borders. Some EU countries closed their borders very quickly without issue, before an EU wide border shutdown took place.

- British labour will quickly fill in the gap left by EU migrant workers - Empty farm fields and the lack of British workers led to the hiring and special charter flights of EU workers from Romania to fill up farm fields to come pick fruit and vegetables. Further attempts to hire British workers have largely been met with weak attendance and response.

- Britain does not need EU workers. NHS has been kept alive by foreign workers, many of whom earn below the arbitrary thresholds that would be set for the EU migration bills. The UK has been so desperate that it relaxed and removed NHS health surcharges on foreign NHS workers.

The dependence of the UK economy on EU workers was shown as a significant factor. It stands to reason that an economy built up on a system over 40 odd years cannot simply be changed over night. That was something the ideologues for Brexit refused to acknowledge.

This article is just soooo much.

Uk Government admits that it has always had sovereignty throughout its membership of the EU. So much for all those arguments from Brexiters that they didn't.

Farmers are realising (probably from the issues with labour during the coronavirus pandemic) that they will not survive without migrant labour from the EU.

I'm sure we can just start sending boats to the Caribbean again, right?

Also, are there any unbiased news sources available these days? I mean, "The government admits..." with no quoted source or even a link to the white paper is just lazy, even for left-leaning/pro-Remain outlets like The Independent and the BBC.

I think you're the one being lazy, to be honest, it took less than a minute to find the white paper:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...nd-new-partnership-with-the-european-union--2

See point 2.1

A news article shouldn't force me to do the digging myself. Again, it's lazy journalism.
I disagree. A news article doesn't require a bibliography, I've never seen this in newspapers, magazines or any traditional journalism. The article did reference their source when they said it was in the Brexit White Paper.

I find it brilliantly ironic that people who voted to end free movement are now clamouring for it.

People fell for the abject, baseless lies.

The virus helped shed light on these lies as they had to charter flights in from Romania just to help the farms out, as very little locals showed any interest in working on the farms.

Look back in this thread. I called it way before Coronavirus was a thing.

That depends on which news sources you rely on, I guess. There were a lot of local applications for positions on farms, mainly because of the large number of layoffs due to the lockdown, and people being furloughed trying to make up the salary deficit.

But, what they found is that some farmers had some very strange conditions attached to their offers of employment. I don't recall where in the UK it was, but a woman turned down the offer because even though she lived about 2 miles away from the farm they required her to live on site with the other labourers.

I imagine wages for Romanians are a lot cheaper than what Brits would expect to be paid, too. And before you go on about minimum wage laws in the UK, I suggest you take a look at the modern slavery happening in Leicester at the Boohoo factory where people are earning £3.50 an hour. Those most definitely aren't locals. And if it happens there, it's probably happening in a lot of other places, too, especially when there are streams of unskilled labourers arriving at the border every day. £3.50 gets you a meal deal in the UK, but is worth a hell of a lot more in Romania.

In many cases, I reckon local farmers probably have deals already set up with Romanian agents to bring the workers in every season at good rates. It's not like they're sitting there every year just hoping enough people walk up to the farm gate to apply for a job before the season starts, is it?

I agree with your point that a lot of people bought into lies the campaign put out there, though. We could go on for days about how both sides told the biggest load of **** under the sun to try and swing the vote in their favour, but I reckon we're done with the mud slinging - it's been 4 years already.
