The Brexit Thread

You are aware that the UK has not yet started import checks on goods coming in from the EU, right? This is supposed to start on 1st April. However, it looks like the UK isn't actually even ready for that date.

I am aware.

Look, the guy was under heavy medication and English is definitely not his first language and some things could have been lost in translation, but he was more annoyed with the French than the British, and was overall unhappy with how the French customs are handling things. What really pissed him off is that before Brexit they didn't have an issue speaking English to him, now on a few occasions they refuse. Its just petty and childish, but then again, its the French!

No doubt @AdrianH will continue to blame "Remainers" for all the Brexit related issues currently facing the UK

Not sure if this is your attempt at trolling, but its pretty weak.

If the UK do what they agreed to (but with the UK being so childish, one never knows) then by July the UK side of the border will have just as much documentation and issues to deal with. It's only because the EU is enforcing the rules from the beginning that the difficulties are mostly on their side.

Can you show me the rule that they must refuse to speak English, or do you want to agree the French are being petty and childish?

The French as a nation generally dislike the British anyway, so wouldn't put the latter past them (of course, that feeling is definitely mutual).

Yes, the dislike goes back almost 1000 years now if we look at the first war of 1066.

I have always felt intrigued when nations have so much history going so far back, its interesting to read up on.

Can you show me the rule that they are required to speak English? I don't agree the French are being petty and childish because they speak French in France. Not at all. It's English arrogance that just expects everybody to speak English for their convenience. Do you think the English border control ever speak French to the people going over the border into the UK?

Wow, what a pathetic effort at deflection. I asked you the question because you said the French are following EU rules. So what rule are they following? The fact you replied with a question is because we both know there is no rule and this was just a weak attempt push back to me so that you can pretend actively refusing to speak a language is not childish and immature.

Secondly, I don't work for the UK border control, I don't know if they have French speaking officials, but seeing French is a subject that can be taken in UK, maybe they have a few than can hold a basic conversation? There is a big difference between actively refusing to speak a language and being unable to speak a language. They French are being petty and childish.

Lastly, the guy wasn't English, he is Romanian working for Austrian company. So stop trying to make this an "English arrogance" issue. They were able to converse with him in English before Brexit, why the sudden language issue.

* Removed my last **** statement, was uncalled for!

Obviously the rules I'm talking about are the customs regulations, as I've stated multiple times - the EU implemented them immediately while the UK didn't. That is the reason its more difficult on the EU side and the fact you seem determined to ignore. You blame the French for not wanting to speak English but that's not the issue.

No you just expect the French to speak English and if one of them can't or doesn't want to then you call them childish, petty and immature. That is the English arrogance directly on display.

Yes, you already said he couldn't speak English properly.

LOLLOL, such toss, entertaining though!

LOLLOL Ok dude!

Go google the French MP that wants to abolish English from EU. The French are just pissed of a lot of French only EU documents and policies that were originally written in French had English added to them, or totally replaced French with English. The French are such cry-babies, petty immature cry-babies.

Why would English be part of the EU? The UK left, remember? That's the most hilarious part. You got what you wanted and now can't stop complaining because you got what you wanted!

UK: The UK is leaving the EU!

EU: OK, I guess we can take English out of the documents then, now that the only English speaking country has left.

UK (or @AdrianH, at least): Aw you're such petty immature cry babies, boo hoo (he says crying)

Actually EU have already stated before Brexit English will remain, had nothing to do with UK nor the EU as you want to pretend to. Its the French just being petty and immature by bringing it up after Brexit even though a decision was already made. Of course, the French along with Germany believe they are the EU, so no surprises there. Also, guess moaning about language when a decision was already made when you have a virus and vaccine issues at home is akin to the ANC changing names of towns and airports when economy is crashing.

Also, your are wrong in your statement Britain is the only English speaking language country of EU.

Even after the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU, English remains one of the official languages of Ireland and Malta.

EU languages | European Union (europa.eu)

The import controls must be in-place for tariff free to remain right? Just trying to understand why UK import controls matter to EU, or do they?

It all revolves around WTO rules, remember them? Many leavers were demanding trade on those terms.

WTO rules require borders are maintained securely and all countries treated equally unless MFN status exists. If the UK treats imports from the EU differently from other third party countries it can open both up to legal action under WTO rules.

The French behaved like that long before Brexit - they loathe the British
A lecturer of mine told us a story once of how he and a group of friends went on a European trip and spent a couple of days in Paris, as one does. Went to a café, and ordered lunch. Their waiter (French) was extremely short with them the entire time, as was everyone else they encountered.

Food was great, though, so they decided to go back the next day before they left Paris - except this time, they thought they'd try something different because they'd gotten some advice from another friend who had also been to France: they all spoke in Afrikaans, even to the waiter who had helped them the day before. He didn't recognise them, it seemed, and didn't understand a word they said, but was all smiles and super helpful, and gave them 5* service to go with the great food.

Yep - got the same advice and it worked a treat - when you speak Afrikaans they think you're Dutch or Belgian - it's the English they can't stand.

So it's the French being petty and childish? Who would have guessed!

So basically you've got your knickers in a knot over nothing at all. No surprises there, how very English of you.

The funniest thing about English people going on (and on and on) about the French all the time is how they seem to lack any self awareness, of the irony there. The English are constantly going on about how awful and immature the French are, for being French and not speaking English (for example), not realising how awful and immature they are being going on like that all the time :X3:And let's be honest, Brexit itself was the ultimate act of pettiness and immaturity so the English need to just get a mirror...
