For the first half of the high I get him to talk about his thoughts, which I think he does without feeling the usual overwhelming dispondency. Being stoned also makes me a much better listener, and more insightful.

I'm bipolar, and I can relate to the importance of the first part about opening up honestly - I think I will forever have walls, but hope to install doors in some of them. Having an appropriate listener is a really important and fundamental part to opening up, so big ups to you @Jings

We're starting on our journey for 2 reasons. The primary is the anti-inflammatory and general pain relief for my partner, and the secondary goal is similar to @Jings scenario. After a rather over ambitious first session, we're conservatively starting small and slowly increasing dosage, seeing drastic improvements in her pain relief, so soon we will be able to pay more attention to my mental state.

I used to carry the attitude that weeds sole purpose was to get high, but our 'experiments' in smaller doses has really shifted my opinion.

@Lapinot when it comes to mental health and mind altering substances : tread carefully. Research as much as possible, and these guys around here do know what they are talking about, they are so much more than a bunch of stoners. And start small. Trust me. I have a baggy that I am kak scared to even touch now because it hit me so hard (but not the wife) and put me out of control for an hour. Imagine the OCD but you cannot physically do anything to 'fix' it. That might happen if you over do it.

As far as recommendations go, I installed telegram and ordered through Trichoma, but I have no where near as much exposure as the other fine folk around here, and your mileage will vary.

Which strain do you utilize for anti-inflammatory properties, I have very good results with local Swazi?

Wait, 3.5g for the whole batch? Have you got a weight for the batch?

So depends on who you are making this for, but I wouldnt want anything less than 80mg to 150mg per brownie. So extrapolate from that.

Depending on your weed, lets say if you purchased from somebody, and its outdoor, you will be lucky to get about 8% return per gram for oil. So 3.5g only gets you about 80mg or so of extract from that bud.

If you make 40 brownie squares, thats literally 2mg per slice which is waaaaaay to weak.

If we go on the lower end of the strength, being 80mg (could maybe goto 50mg but I think thats too low, even for newbies), then you need about 25-30gram of weed being extracted to 8-10% of its total weight.

You need a total of about 3.2g of pure oil for that batch to meet the above measurements.. You can go from there, up or down, depending on how strong it needs to be.

I would use 3.5g in one brownie for example.

At 10% THC that brownie is 350mg, is that your average?
What are your yields of oil per kilogram and do you make edibles only with the oil?

Yeah I would go on that, but thats personal so it needs to be adjusted accordingly. Also makes a diff with the type of weed used.

From my own bud, and some of what my mother grows, I get on average about 14%. I could get more but requires more effort. Ive had 17% off a plant before and Im sure you can get more with hashplant type pheno's. Lots of resin gets you lots of oil.

I generally extract in batches of 100g, more manageable that way and gives me an accurate % to work with and estimate additional batches. There may be a slight variance but I go on 1ml = 1g of pure oil. This is what I use to measure my coconut mixes and for my patients (I dont give recreationally at all), it works very well.

So on a KG, expect about 100-140ml's of pure oil if the bud is full of goodness and you have extracted correctly and used actual bud, not trim.

I only make edibles with pure oil as this is the only way to measure correctly. If you use straight bud melted in butter, you just hope for the best and when supplying other people, it makes it almost impossible to give them directions.

That said, I dont like eating it.. dont enjoy the feeling, the time it takes to kick in, the fact you cannot control the dosage. I dont even enjoy taking the oil... its smoke or no smoke for me..

Is the weed grower's thread missing or what I can't find it.

A couple of weeks ago I bought some automatics on the last picture, everything was going great until this morning when they suddenly looked like they haven't had water and dying. No change in feeding or watering. Not impressed.

Anyone have some advice for some natural insecticide, something is eating some of my plants but I don't see any insects?20181210_163919.jpg20181210_163856.jpg20181210_163841.jpg20181210_163803.jpg

Ok bro, to start the bottom right hand pics with the two plants in the small plastic pots... this looks text book over watering. Roots arent getting air, leaves droop, spots start appearing on leaves.. I would repot asap.. get a decent fabric pot if moisture control is tricky. Root rot will follow if left in this condition.

I use fabric pots and they are amazing with moisture control.

The bigger plants look fine, although those black bag pots arent imo the best. Fabric pots man!! The droopy ones may just need some water, or less, but should perk up. Established root systems recover easier.

Some genetics also droop more in comparison to others that try reach for the sun. Just make sure leaves arent curly, arent showing spots, or changing colour.. plant is probably fine.

Otherwise looking good!

A heavy dose of 9# hammer had her pain free for days.
We busy with Mt Cook figuring out dosage a bit more scientifically, but not yet at the point where we can determine actual quantity, just ballpark figures at the moment.

I agree on the smoke part I quite enjoy it but trying edibles for someone who doesn't smoke. When you say pure oil is that with the solvent you used or do you distillate it afterwards to pure cannabis oil?

I'll try and source some seeds for next year to try out thanks. I unfortunately only get hours not days of relief.

Organic ethanol, and silk screen filters and a decent purge process to leave a pretty pure product, without having it tested.

I think it's something else, my watering schedule is very exact even with rest days so roots can expand and search for water. Also perlite mixed with organic mix so pretty airy.

Yes those plastic bags are awful and too small but for some reason no one stocks anything larger that I could find. I agree on the fabric pots, I have some but having to buy 30 at one time was out of the question. I might buy some of the big ones (100l+) for next year but next year I'm growing in soil, already started to prepare the soil. Going for less plants but full sized.

Quite happy with my little harvest so far, only one male out of 30, the rest are all in flowering. Couple of insect issues that I'm going to tackle this week and I have to move all the plants as they are too close to each other but besides that no issues. Quite a wide variety going there and smells so definitely going to enjoy come harvest time :)

Man those symptoms check out, but weird things happen all the time. I would transplant though, asap.. have a look at the root ball and maybe give it a trim. You will also see if its a moisture issue or not, those pots dont allow breathing much and they get super hot which wrecks the roots.

How you going about your own soil?

Big harvests are great, but dam.. the amount of work required watering and feeding and then harvesting.. killa..but so worth it.

Sounds fascinating, looks like one of my future projects.

I do the butane extract and vacuum purge as well but again, too much effort when a smoke is better. Sitting with about 5g of blue dream absolute bho in my freezer cause I cant be assed to dab the stuff. Occasionally break it up and drop a bit of a pipe or bong for extra hit otherwise saving this to make gummies to travel with.

Those plants were 100% fine yesterday evening and this morning they looked like that. Can't explain it but they're going to the compost heap tomorrow.

I have to admit I didn't know anything about soil and thought you just need some manure or compost and you're golden. Big difference between sand and soil and it takes a long time to get all the micro organisms established so it's going to take a few years still to get perfect. I'm planning a 5 x 5 metre area which now basically is just garden waste in layers busy composting. If I get leaves I shred them and they go to the hummus pile for next year. Slow process but will hopefully bear some fruit.

On the harvest size I agree my hand is probably going to cramp up very quickly trimming all that bud. I was expecting a lot more males and diseases that I could get rid off but only got one male and one kinda sick plant. My grow this year was very unplanned and out of the usual three plants but I wanted to see my strain's different characteristics so I planted a few, after that I decided to a plant seed from every group of seeds that I had. Next year I'm definitely only going ten proper genetics and plant a lot of Swazi wild on the farm and just select a few to harvest.

@krieg - are you training them at all? Topping? Cant see any.. can double your yield.

No training at all they are all Christmas shape. I'm not really concerned about yield at the moment I'm only taking the top colas so I need it big, the rest I want to use for oil.

Teaming with Microbes, get that book, if you havent already. Fantastic if you are into living soils.. absolutely my favourite way to grow.
