Two in Joburg court for robbing cash security guard

Police says a number of suspects approached a security guard on Friday, pointed him with firearms and made off with cash canisters.

Two suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday in connection with the robbery of a cash security guard at The Glen shopping centre, south of Johannesburg.

Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations (Hawks) spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the incident happened on Friday.

Another cash-in-transit vehicle targeted during drop-off

No one has been arrested yet regarding the robbery of a cash vehicle near Velddrif in the Western Cape, police said.

Security guards were in the process of loading an ATM with money on Wednesday when a group of armed men stormed the cash vehicle, police said on Thursday.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money. At this stage it's still uncertain whether anyone was injured in the incident.

Cops foil cash-in-transit heist, arrest four in Tzaneen

National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sithole commended his officers on Thursday after police foiled a cash-in-transit heist in Sugar Hill Complex, Tzaneen.

"I have to commend the bravery of our members who did not back down during a shootout and managed to arrest these suspects before they could commit robbery. This is as the result of the police’s pursuance on stamping the authority of the state," he said.

A team comprising Crime Intelligence and a Tracking Team stopped the robbery at a petrol station and arrested four suspects, police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said.

She said police noticed a white VW Polo TSI with fake number plates "scouting the area". Muridili said police intercepted as the cash-in-transit vehicle drove into the petrol station.

Police question ANC’s Free State deputy chair William Bulwane on ‘cash heist links’

The Free State ANC’s deputy chairperson, William Bulwane, has laid charges against a panel beater who allegedly used his luxury vehicle to participate in a cash-in-transit heist while it was supposedly left in his care for repairs. According to the SA Police Service (SAPS), the 38-year-old man driving a BMX X5 with no registration number was arrested after police noticed him driving the car in Bloemfontein and flagged down the car as being under suspicion of carrying illegal firearms.

They mobilised the Mangaung Tactical Response Team, and upon searching the vehicle, they uncovered and confiscated an R5 rifle, one LM5 rifle and a pistol, all with the serial numbers filed off, as well as a hand radio and an undisclosed amount of money. Police also found a bag with equipment suspected to be used in heists and armed robberies.

Cele revealed this on Wednesday during a meeting with Parliament's police portfolio committee which was called to discuss the turnaround strategy of the Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation‚ commonly known as the Hawks‚ on high profile cases.

Hawks nab four men outside Delmas court after they appear for cash-in-transit heist

Four men have been arrested outside the Delmas High Court in Mpumalanga, shortly after appearing in connection with a cash-in-transit heist case, the Hawks said on Tuesday.

The men were arrested on Monday - one in connection with a foiled heist in Limpopo and the other three in connection with a 2016 heist in Mpumalanga.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the four men were arrested after they appeared in court alongside alleged heist kingpin Wellington Cenanda.

They are out on bail in that case in which they face several cash-in-transit-heist-related charges.

WATCH: Looters descend on cash-in-transit vehicle after Mpumalanga heist

Another day and another cash-in-transit heist. This time, the suspects were filmed while in the act in Mpumalanga.
G4S Cash Solutions told News24 that one of their armoured vehicles had come under attack on Saturday while performing a cash collection service in Emoyeni, Mpumalanga.

Police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said the incident occurred at 13:30.
She told News24 that an unknown number of suspects had opened fire on the armoured vehicle, bringing it to a standstill.

Suspect in Florida cash-in-transit heist shot dead in Soweto

Alleged cash-in-transit robbers nabbed within hours

Police have nabbed three alleged cash-in-transit robbers mere hours after they attacked a pension payout point in Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape.

The assailants targeted the Zingqitu Administration in Glen Grey on Friday when they threatened pensioners at gunpoint and forced them lie down.

"They then confronted the security officers that were preparing money for the pension payout. The suspects overpowered the security officers and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money," police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili said on Saturday.

Cops exchange fire with cash-in-transit suspects, three dead – Mandeni

Three men were killed and a fourth left in a serious condition after a high speed chase and shootout with police near Mandeni this afternoon.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Dylan Meyrick, the shooting occurred shortly before 4pm on the N2 highway between the Mandeni toll plaza and the Tugela River.
The men are suspected of involvement in cash-in-transit heists and were being pursued by police in an unmarked vehicle.
KwaDukza SAPS spokesperson Sibusiso Khuzwayo confirmed the shooting.
“Members of the SAPS National Intervention Unit, acting on reliable information, had followed the suspects from Durban when the shooting took place.”
After the exchange of fire the N2 was temporarily closed.
As of 5.30pm the area was still an active crime scene and delays in traffic are to be expected.

WATCH: Armed thieves attack cash-in-transit guards in Boksburg

Four armed assailants robbed two G4S guards at a shopping centre in Boksburg last Tuesday.
CCTV footage of the incident shows a guard walking from the Cashbuild store in Dawn Park with a money bag. The group of men then approach the guard and attack him.
The clumsy thieves almost made off without the money, after the bag fell from the boot of their white Volkswagen Jetta.
They quickly picked the bag up and made a hasty escape.

Police told News24 that before that, there had been a shootout between the suspects and the guards.

I saw 2 trucks with heavy police escort the other day. I was on the opposite side of the intersection but felt uneasy. Started looking for escape routes in case something happens.

Cops gun down alleged cash-in-transit robbers near Mandeni

Police continued their crackdown on cash-in-transit robbers this afternoon when two men were shot and killed on the N2 near Mandeni.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Dylan Meyrick, this is the third shooting on this stretch of highway this week.

On Monday the Courier reported on police from the National Intervention Unit (NIU) catching up with three men south of the Tugela River bridge. The men were killed after they began firing at detectives in an unmarked car.

“Today’s shooting was about eight kilometers further north from Monday,” said Meyrick.

According to KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo, members of the SAPS provincial task team, including the NIU tracked down the men following a tip off.

They were suspected of being part of a syndicate responsible for ATM-bombings and armed robberies across the province.

After the chase and shootout police recovered two handguns: one 9mm and one 38 special. The highway was temporarily closed.

Yesterday three men suspected of bank robbery were also shot dead on the N2 near Mandeni.

This brings the death toll for suspected armed robbers to eight this week. No police have been wounded in the exchanges.
