KZN robber sentenced to 25 years for cash-in-transit heist

A 50-year-old man implicated in a cash-in-transit heist in the Gingindlovu area was sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday.

In 2014, Nicholas Mkhanyiseni Mdluli and his accomplices attacked security guards who were transporting cash.

"They fired shots at the vehicle until it halted, they then poured petrol over the vehicle threatening to burn it and ordered security guards to come out," Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo said.

Guns, cars seized as Cape Town cops nab two cash heist suspects

Cape Town - A security guard was wounded and two suspects, one of whom also sustained gunshot wounds, were arrested following a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery near Forest Drive in Eerste River in Cape Town, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said on Sunday.


A group of armed men attacked a cash-in-transit vehicle at about 3 pm on Saturday afternoon, wounding the driver in the leg, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said.


"They robbed the two guards and driver of their handguns, blew up the rear door of the CIT vehicle, and made off with an undisclosed amount of money," he said.


An off-duty SAPS member witnessed the incident and called for back-up. A police captain with his Blue Downs policing cluster team responded to the incident. A shoot-out ensued between police and the suspects, and some suspects fled on foot and others in vehicles. However, SAPS arrested two suspects, aged 34 and 47. The 34-year-old had been shot in his upper body.

Trio hit Cape Town mall in cash-in-transit heist

Three men escaped with an undisclosed amount of money in a cash-in-transit heist at a Cape Town mall on Monday, police say.

The trio hit the Liberty Promenade in Mitchells Plain at about 14:30 as the security guard was leaving the shopping centre, making off with a cash box.

"The security guard's firearm was also taken by suspects," national police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo said.

Seven nabbed after woman killed during Eastern Cape cash van heist


Seven suspects have been arrested after a cash-in-transit heist left one motorist dead and another injured outside Mthatha, police said on Wednesday.

Five people were arrested on Tuesday afternoon - a day after a gang travelling in a bakkie shot at a security vehicle on the N2 in Tsolo in the Eastern Cape, police said.

Two others were arrested on Monday within hours of the heist.

The bullets fired killed a 30-year-old woman and injured another motorist.

Three security guards were disarmed and tied up before the safe was forced open and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

Activation plan

Police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo said the five were nabbed in another province as part of a joint 72-hour activation plan. The Hawks, forensics teams and Crime Intelligence worked with police to compile the evidence.

Looks like they had their guns hidden, they'd have to stage the scene for that to work when the perps travel unarmed.
 
Police foil cash-in-transit robbery plan, arrest 12 suspects

Following a tip-off from Crime Intelligence, police thwarted the plans of 12 men who were allegedly in the midst of panning a cash-in-transit robbery on Friday afternoon.
According to police, a tracking team comprising of Crime Intelligence, the Hawks, forensic experts and other units acted on the information and pounced on the suspects who were arrested at a house in Midrand.

"A multi-disciplinary operation was conducted in which 12 suspects were arrested," said national police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo.
"They were found in possession of three firearms, two rifles and a pistol and several rounds of ammunition.

"The team also recovered six hijacked vehicles – a bakkie and five sedans."
Naidoo described the bust as a major breakthrough, particularly as it was a proactive effort by law enforcement agencies to combat cash-in-transit robberies in the country.

Cops nab nine cash-in-transit suspects, seize firearms and luxury cars

Rustenburg - The South African Police Services Tactical Response Team, acting on a tip-off, arrested nine people in the midst of planning a cash-in-transit robbery in Mahikeng in North West province on Friday morning.

"The Tactical Response Team arrested nine suspects and recovered six firearms including one AK-47 rifle, handguns and an Uzi, several rounds of ammunition and four luxury vehicles including a black Jeep, an Audi Q5, a Mercedes ML and a Ford Ranger," police spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said.

The team acted on information that a group was gathered at a house in Riviera Park, Mahikeng where they were planning a heist, Naidoo said.

Guard, farmer shot in yet another cash heist ambush on Vryheid road

The farmer, who was shot while in pursuit of the armed robbers involved in yesterday’s cash in transit heist near Vryheid , was admitted to a local hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition.

Martin Dedekind, a farmer in the Piet Retief area, had attempted to try and bring the perpetrators to justice, the Vryheid Herald reported.

His attempted were thwarted when he attempted to stop one of the two vehicles being used by the robbers before they could proceed along the bridge just before Commondale near Piet Retief.

The gunmen in a second vehicle came up behind Mr Dedekind and opened fire, with one of the bullets penetrating Mr Dedekind’s stomach.

A G4S security guard was rushed to Vryheid Hospital after being shot in the head during the cash in transit heist that took place at the Tea Cup near Scheepers Nek at about 7pm on Monday.
