You'll need to get in touch with Frogfoot to ask them. As far as I know there is significant interest for Frogfoot FTTH in Tokai, so I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a possibility.

Yeah, I would be happy to. I have noticed Telkom trenching all along the main road in tokia. Competition is getting rough now.

I know that there is an MSAN upgrade coming online 1st of October...

The status update in question is here: http://constantiafibre.com/status/

There is frustration being experienced by the residents but we do have an excellent and valued relationship with City and so there will hopefully be a quality discussions shortly so stakeholders can better understand the issues and see how to resolve them collectively. There does need to be certainty about requirements and timelines.

Seems like constantia has run into unexpected delays from the city of Cape Town?(if you read the status updates) Is it again the case of politicians getting in the way again?
I stay in Hout Bay and we hoping it will come over the hill ,so watching constantia

Hope this gets sorted soon as Rondebosch are also looking at finalizing a RFP with Link Africa shortly!!!

Once the 'hurdles' that Constantia is faced with at the moment are resolved, the 'groundwork' (if you excuse the pun) would have been largely done. There is a significant overlap of agreements, understandings, relationships etc. If anything, move things along so that the public participation process can get underway sooner.

You are welcome to PM me with any queries that would help move your process along. I can't guarantee I can assist, but I"m happy to try

Thanks for the offer.I'm not intimately involved in the process but if I sense any delays I will keep you in mind.

I have tweeted as well.

Lets get a few out there for help and see what happens.

Right now the city wants a 3 month stakeholder process. We already determined people wanted FTTH many months ago!! Link Africa has rolls and rolls of fibre waiting to be deployed...

This whole thing is quite upsetting.

We have more than 200 clients who have signed service provision contracts, who are calling on a daily basis wanting to know when they will receive the service they've signed up for.

We have invested in additional routing equipment in Teraco for the 10Gb link between us and Frogfoot and purchased additional IP addresses as well as IP transit to provide these clients with service.

Now it's just sitting there. Every month we pay for fresh air.

Please tweet to Hellen Zille and de Lille. Companies getting involved will give us more credibility.

This is a very frustrating exercise in bureaucracy.

to make this more frustrating, the DA is attempting to give 100Mb broadband to all residents of the Western Cape by 2020.

Our head guy has personally paid for and flown around the country giving presentations to other communities (including many in the Western Cape).

The DA should be fast tracking this as it meets their goals, but alas red tape prevails it seems.

Can you specify what the red tape here is? Where is the bottleneck?

Sure, in the case of Constantia she is involved. I would have liked to see her brought in earlier and more often in the process

That's good general advice though

Having said that, I'm having no joy getting the courtesy of a response at the moment - just an annoying auto-acknowledgment

STATUS UPDATE:

1. Telkom is indeed racing to get FTTH installed throughout Constantia - at a faster rate than previously projected. Competition motivates. While this is frustrating in that the community did not choose Telkom, we will be lucky enough to be one of the few suburbs in South Africa to have two different FTTH backbones.

2. Underneath is a status update from Frogfoot concerning the network.

_______________________________________________

Good people of Constantia, an update on the approval process being followed with the City of Cape Town:

Using LinkAfrica’s innovative FOCUS technology, disruption to your suburb is minimised, but it has meant a more rigorous and lengthy engagement with the City than expected. The City recently agreed to a 5 step process that would get us out of the starting gate.

This is where we are with that:

1) Completion of an independent engineer's report addressing FOCUS. Check.

2) Agreement on a tariff for LinkAfrica to deploy FOCUS in the City of Cape Town. Check.

3) Conclusion of a legal agreement governing the deployment of FOCUS in Cape Town. Awaiting feedback from the City.

4) Conclusion of a public participation process whereby you as residents have an opportunity to give your input into the deployment of FOCUS. Commences as soon as (3) is done; timeframe to be determined by the City. Supposedly a 21 day duration.

5) Ratification by various council structures of the above (first the SubCouncil serving Constantia, then the Cape Town City Council). These are dependent on when these bodies meet, which we understand is monthly.

The upside of this, is that once all the above is done, future approvals should be much faster.

In the interim.

* The City has agreed to expedite the wayleaves for the sections of the cable route that will need to use traditional trenching. We are told to expect these by 9 October 2015.

* The survey of existing ducts in Silverhurst Estate is done, the results are positive, the final network design is done and the Home Owners Association has given the green light. The roll out starts today! We obviously need the backhaul link from the estate in place (which needs wayleaves), but it should (volente deo!) be possible for Silverhurst to be live in November 2015.

* Link Africa teams will shortly be visible in other areas of Constantia, digging pilot holes to prove existing services.

* A new Project Plan is due next week with revised dates - these will be translated onto the rollout map.

We’re well aware that a certain large, blue telco has awoken from its slumber and is rushing in to deploy FTTH in Constantia while we’re waiting for the starters gun to go off. Competition is good; it keeps us all on our toes, and we love challenging complacency, so all we have to say is… “what took you so long?!”
